A measles <\/a>warning has been issued for Sydney <\/a>after a person with the disease went to numerous places in the area.<\/p>\n

The person had returned from South East Asia, where there are ongoing outbreaks of measles.<\/p>\n

They were mostly in Campbelltown in the city\u2019s south-west from 23 until 28 September.<\/p>\n

The places they went to<\/a> while infectious last week included a coffee shop, nail salon, hairdressers and Kmart in Narellan.<\/p>\n

They also went to Concord Oval Recreation Centre in Concord and Wanderers Football Park in Rooty Hill.<\/p>\n

NSW Health warned people who were at these locations on the same dates and times should watch for symptoms. <\/p>\n

But those locations do not pose an ongoing risk.<\/p>\n

There have been 56 measles cases confirmed since 1 January 2026.<\/p>\n

Acting Clinical Director of South Western Sydney Local Health District Public Health Unit, Dr Stephen Conaty, said people should monitor for symptoms particularly if they have visited any of the exposure locations at the listed time.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf symptoms develop and you\u2019ve been at one of the locations at the time listed on the website, see your doctor or health service, including an emergency department,\u201d Dr Conaty said.<\/p>\n

\u201cCall ahead to let them know that you may have come into contact with measles so you don’t spend time in waiting rooms with other patients.<\/p>\n

\u201cSymptoms to watch out for include fever, sore eyes, runny nose and a cough, usually followed three or four days later by a red, blotchy rash that spreads from the head and face to the rest of the body.<\/p>\n

New research shows an estimated 1.7 million Australians are not protected against measles<\/a>, putting the nation at risk of further outbreaks.<\/a><\/p>\n

Nearly seven per cent of the population was not adequately immunised against the disease in 2019, the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS) analysis found.<\/p>\n
