{"id":914533,"date":"2026-10-03T10:20:16","date_gmt":"2026-10-03T10:20:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/914533\/"},"modified":"2026-10-03T10:20:16","modified_gmt":"2026-10-03T10:20:16","slug":"bushwalker-stops-just-metres-from-40-metre-cliff-after-coastal-fall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/914533\/","title":{"rendered":"Bushwalker stops just metres from 40-metre cliff after coastal fall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A bushwalker who slipped 10 metres down a coastal slope came to a stop just above a 40-metre cliff, with police warning an attempt to rescue himself could have had a \u201ccatastrophic outcome\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The 62-year-old New South Wales man was walking alone on a track at Dennes Point on North Bruny Island on Saturday morning when he fell and slid down a steep slope towards the water.<\/p>\n<p>The man, who was not injured, called emergency services around 10:30am and local police arrived shortly afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>A specialist police roping team was flown in by rescue helicopter and the man was brought to safety around 1pm.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-78910\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/olv2dts1jd18zuu_6jdud_norm3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"1000\"  \/>The man came to a stop just above a further 40-metre cliff. Image \/ Tasmania Police<\/p>\n<p>Senior Constable Callum Herbert from search and rescue said the man had slipped about 10 metres down an \u201cunstable slope\u201d at the edge of the coastal track.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe luckily stopped himself at the top of a further 40-metre cliff,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-78909\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/c880cdb84vck8s9_4zg36_naqyu.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1536\" height=\"1024\"  \/>The bushwalker fell on a track at Dennes Point on North Bruny Island.
