A major police operation north of Brisbane<\/a> has ended after police spent hours responding to reports of an armed person inside a home.<\/p>\n

Queensland Police<\/a> were called to a home on Birchgrove Crescent in Kallangur about 11.28am on Saturday to conduct a welfare check on a man aged in his 40s.<\/p>\n

7NEWS understands the man was armed with weapons and gas bottles.<\/p>\n

Specialist officers surrounded the home and began negotiating with the man as police made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) about 12.07pm.<\/p>\n

An exclusion zone was established across parts of Kallangur, with residents inside the area told to stay indoors and others urged to stay away.<\/p>\n

Some nearby residents who had been out for the day were unable to return to their homes for hours as the operation unfolded.<\/p>\n

Police confirmed no one else was inside the home.<\/p>\n

Officers eventually gained entry to the property about 4.52pm and took the man into custody.<\/p>\n

He was taken to The Prince Charles Hospital in a stable condition.<\/p>\n

No injuries have been reported yet, police said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
