\n\tAs Aaron Sorkin<\/a> logged back into Facebook for The Social Reckoning<\/a>, his friend request to Jesse Eisenberg<\/a> was denied.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Oscar-winning screenwriter of The Social Network<\/a> (2010) explained that \u201cit never occurred\u201d to him that Eisenberg wouldn\u2019t want to reprise his portrayal of Meta mogul Mark Zuckerberg<\/a> in the sequel, which premieres Oct. 9 in theaters.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI knew what the studio was offering him to do it, but money does not motivate Jesse. It\u2019s infuriating,\u201d he told Entertainment Weekly<\/a>. \u201cIf anything, money is a disincentive for him. It\u2019s admirable. He\u2019s very concerned about raising his kids with too much money.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSorkin said he was \u201cjust a couple of pages from being done\u201d with the script for The Social Reckoning when he ran into the actor \u201cand said, \u2018I\u2019m gonna be sending you something in a couple of weeks.\u2019 And he smiled and nodded, and I sent it to him. It never occurred to me that he wouldn\u2019t wanna do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBefore ultimately casting Jeremy Strong<\/a> as Zuckerberg last September, Sorkin spent a three-day weekend attempting to persuade Eisenberg to return.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThis is the only time I\u2019ve written myself an outline. I don\u2019t do it for the movies, but I did it for my conversations with Jesse,\u201d he noted. \u201cIt was arguments for why he should do it. They included, \u2018We already know you\u2019re gonna be great because you were already once.\u2019 You know, \u2018Here are the great moments that you\u2019re gonna get to play in the movie.\u2019 And I laid it out for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSorkin added, \u201cHe just doesn\u2019t like being conflated<\/a> with Mark Zuckerberg anymore. He doesn\u2019t like that he kinda resembles the guy physically; that role is probably what he\u2019s most known for.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter The Social Network (2010) recounted Mark Zuckerberg\u2019s creation of Facebook and the controversy that ensued, Sorkin returned to write and direct the upcoming sequel, which focuses on a 2021 document leak that exposed harm Facebook caused on society.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn The Social Reckoning, Facebook engineer Frances Haugen (Mikey Madison) goes to Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz (Jeremy Allen White) with the social media platform\u2019s most guarded secrets.
