Should rich people be expected to fund the lifestyles of their less wealthy friends?<\/p>\n

The internet is divided over recent comments made by the wife of NBA legend and billionaire Lebron James, who defended her decision not to upgrade her best friend to first class when the pair travel together.<\/p>\n

Savannah James and April McDaniel have been friends for 15 years, sharing a podcast among other business ventures \u2014 yet they experience vastly different lifestyles.<\/p>\n

Appearing on Boardroom\u2019s Mental Wealth<\/a> podcast, they explained how they navigate the wealth gap dividing them, with Ms McDaniel \u2014 the founder of Crown + Conquer marketing agency \u2014 admitting she never expects her well-off mate to fork out for her.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe talk about this a lot because there\u2019s two different lifestyles that exist. Like we\u2019re not delusional to that, and I think Savannah has accommodated where I\u2019m at,\u201d Ms McDaniel said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo if we want to go away, I can\u2019t just be like, \u2018All right, we\u2019re going away tomorrow\u2019, because I\u2019m on a budget sometimes.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, we\u2019re plotting and planning. We don\u2019t just show up at Fashion Week (the) week of. We don\u2019t move like that, even though people think we do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms McDaniel said she doesn\u2019t \u201cfeel the need to be in first\u201d class because her budget doesn\u2019t allow for it, and admitted the pair laugh about the quirks in their wealth disparity.<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cPeople were very critical of her being in first and me being in business, and me going up to first and getting in her bed and watching a movie, they was (sic) like offended, and I was like, \u2018Why?\u2019 I can\u2019t afford first.\u201d<\/p>\n

Defending their dynamic, Ms James said she\u2019s never had to put friends in their place over attempts to leech off her status and wealth.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy friends are very respectful of my situation,\u201d the mother of three said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no expectation of taking care of something or you just having me be responsible for them. It has never ever been that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The long-time friends host Everybody\u2019s Crazy, a podcast featuring themes of motherhood, dating, work, identity, and personal growth.<\/p>\n
