Meghan Markle’s mother Doria Ragland is said to have issued her daughter a very forthright two-word warning about what awaited her in the UK.<\/p>\n

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex famously stepped back<\/a> from royal duties and self-exiled to California in 2020, causing an internal rift within the Royal family, only to return to the UK six years later.<\/p>\n

However Markle’s mother, with whom the Duchess reportedly FaceTimes every day, warned her daughter “more misery” awaits her in Britain in the form of heightened hostility from the public and media, reports the Sunday Express<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The reason for the royal pair’s return to the UK in August is reportedly so their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, can attend school in Britain.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But the Sussexes have already been forced to condemn press photographers<\/a> who allegedly tried to capture photos of their children near their school, calling it a “reckless intrusion.”<\/p>\n

Ragland’s warning echoes a similar sentiment shared by Harry in a London courtroom back in January, when he accused the media of making his wife’s life “absolute misery.”<\/p>\n

The Duchess famously spoke out about “being silenced” by members of the royal family and “feeling trapped.” She also made allegations of racism and claimed that she suffered suicidal thoughts while working as a royal, while Harry compared Meghan’s treatment to that of his late mother, Princess Diana.<\/p>\n

Rob Shuter, writer and former US publicist for Princess Michael of Kent, claims Meghan’s mother is “fiercely protective” and worries her daughter’s move back to the UK could reopen unhealed wounds. He added that the two remain close but she “couldn’t stay silent after her daughter and Harry told her they were planning to go back to Britain.”<\/p>\n

\u201cShe saw the effect that constant \u00adscrutiny from both inside and outside the Royal Family had on Meghan. She was at her side not just for the wedding and for the birth of Archie, but for \u00adeverything else in between.\u201d<\/p>\n

A senior Hollywood executive also told the Sunday Express the actress turned Duchess “sparked genuine fears” for her wellbeing among her inner circle. “She seemed to have been in a very dark place and it’s clear to me that her mom is worried about her landing back there.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

He added that others in Meghan’s American circle of friends likewise believe returning to Britain where she is extremely unpopular \u2014 hitting record lows<\/a> according to recent YouGov polling \u2014 could see her unravel again.<\/p>\n

Despite the move, the royal couple will be keeping their $21 million AUD mansion in Montecito, California, where they settled back in 2020.<\/p>\n

Meghan is expected to fly back to Montecito later this month, where she will reportedly reunite with her mother. She is expected to attend the Daytime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on October 30, where she is nominated for Outstanding Lifestyle Series for her since-cancelled Netflix show With Love, Meghan.<\/p>\n

She was also dropped from another Netflix acting project, The Gentlemen, while Netflix opted not to renew Harry’s $100 million Netflix deal.<\/p>\n

Meghan’s former agent Ari Emanual recently confirmed WME quietly parted ways with Meghan in 2025, despite conflicting reports.<\/p>\n

In a profile for\u00a0the UK’s The Sunday Times<\/a>, when asked where he though Meghan’s career was headed after parting ways, he said: “Here’s the great thing: I don’t have to think about that anymore.”<\/p>\n

\u201cMeghan is still repped by WME but Ari has refused to talk to her for more than a year and two of his senior executives now handle any enquiries from or about her,” a senior studio source told
