Whether it\u2019s being incorporated into other dishes<\/a> or devoured limb-for-limb straight out of the bag, the supermarket hot chook<\/a> has firmly embedded itself in Aussie eating habits.<\/p>\n

Now, the \u2018bachelor\u2019s handbag<\/a>\u2019, as it\u2019s affectionately known, has been immortalised in the form of an actual bag. <\/p>\n

You can now carry around a \u2018bachelor\u2019s handbag\u2019 without the risk of chicken juice spillage.\u00a0Supplied\/Woolworths<\/p>\n

The limited-edition bag will be available at Woolworths, in store and online at select supermarkets and Metro stores, from Wednesday, October 14 while stocks last.<\/p>\n

Selling at $10 a pop, the thermally insulated bags include a handle and detachable strap. <\/p>\n

They\u2019re designed to look like the real thing, complete with all the distinctive graphics \u2013 the only thing missing is the chicken juices sloshing around the bottom of the bag.<\/p>\n

Of course, you could use them to house your actual bachelor\u2019s handbag as you do your shopping, but the sky is the limit. We\u2019re calling it: you\u2019ll see these at the beach en masse this summer.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s no secret Aussies love a hot chook, whether they get them from Woolies, Coles or Costco, but the numbers really tell a story.<\/p>\n

Supermarkets around the country sell a staggering 90 million of them a year.<\/p>\n

Coles and Woolworths have been selling hot roast chickens in stores since the \u201960s, originally from staffed deli counters rather than today\u2019s grab-and-go format. <\/p>\n

By the mid-2000s, the standalone warmer was industry standard for both major supermarkets.<\/p>\n

While the classic roast chook is a perennial favourite, it\u2019s undergone some evolution, with both supermarkets experimenting with different flavours.<\/p>\n

This year alone, Woolies has released a smokey BBQ infused rotisserie chicken<\/a>, while Coles has dropped a butter chicken-flavoured variety<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Both brands have also started rolling out half and quarter chicken cuts<\/a>, offering a whole new level of convenience for shoppers who don\u2019t need a whole chook.<\/p>\n

As for the distinctly Aussie nickname \u2018bachelor\u2019s handbag\u2019, it won Macquarie Dictionary\u2019s People\u2019s Choice Word of the Year in 2022.<\/p>\n
