A Tasmanian cafe owner and Pauline Hanson’s daughter have become embroiled in a row over an AI-generated video depicting people ditching their social and political allegiances and revealing themselves as One Nation supporters.<\/p>\n

Richmond Reading Room, a cafe business north of Hobart, posted to its social media pages expressing offence at the video, and making an unnamed reference to regular cafe-goer, One Nation candidate and Pauline Hanson’s daughter, Lee Hanson.<\/p>\n

“Seen the latest One Nation ad and felt absolutely disgusted like I do? Then you’ll likely feel the same way when you see the orange ute outside our coffee shop,” the post said.<\/p>\n

“Unfortunately, our coffee is so good that even One Nation members spend their money here \u2014 owned and run by a gay, indigenous-descended, trans-inclusive, pro-multicultural, anti-flag, pro-choice, anti-generative AI, Greens voter.<\/p>\n

“Any money spent by a member of one nation will be donated directly to Tasmanian Greens.”\"AI-generated<\/p>\n

Titled “It’s ok to come out \u2026 as a One Nation voter”, the video begins with a family sitting around the dinner table over “vegan mung beans”, with the son declaring he is “conservative”.<\/p>\n

The video goes on to depict a man of African appearance wielding a machete, a man of Middle Eastern appearance wearing what appears to be an explosives vest, and protesters outside a parliament building.<\/p>\n

The video also deals with issues including bias by the ABC, bail laws, gender identity, mass migration, power prices, and money allocated to Indigenous Australians on the basis of “identity”.<\/p>\n

Lee Hanson says if the cafe owners “had an issue with me coming into their business, why not simply talk to me? I am a person. I am a local”. (ABC News: Monty Jacka)<\/p>\n

Lee Hanson, who lives in the area, responded on her social media, saying the cafe’s post came as a “complete shock” and that she was “genuinely hurt”.<\/p>\n

“If the owners had an issue with me coming into their business, why not simply talk to me? I am a person. I am a local. I am a customer who has supported your business for years,” she wrote.<\/p>\n

“You do not have to agree with my politics. I would never expect you to. But surely we have reached a pretty sad place when someone’s political beliefs determine whether their presence or their custom is considered acceptable.<\/p>\n

“The irony of preaching inclusion while publicly singling out customers because of their political association is difficult to ignore.<\/p>\n

“At least I now know where I stand.”<\/p>\n

Lee Hanson said she would continue supporting local Tasmanian businesses, “just not businesses that publicly make people feel unwelcome because they happen to hold different political views, despite claiming to be for inclusivity”.<\/p>\n
