{"id":918213,"date":"2026-10-06T13:24:10","date_gmt":"2026-10-06T13:24:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/918213\/"},"modified":"2026-10-06T13:24:10","modified_gmt":"2026-10-06T13:24:10","slug":"opioid-alert-issued-for-windsor-essex","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/918213\/","title":{"rendered":"Opioid alert issued for Windsor-Essex"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Windsor-Essex Community Opioid and Substance Strategy (WECOSS) is reporting a high number of opioid overdoses over the last week. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">From Sept. 27 to Oct. 3, WECOSS reported 30 overdoses reported at emergency departments. 17 of those involved fentanyl. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">WECOSS is urging Windsor-Essex to share the alert out and keep the following safety tips in mind for anyone who uses opioids: <\/p>\n<p>Never use aloneTry a very small amount firstIf you use with a friend, do not use at the exact same timeAvoid mixing substancesCall 911 immediately if something doesn\u2019t feel rightHave naloxone ready and know how to respondCall the National Overdose Response Service 24\/7 hotline at 1-888-688-6677 for confidential support while using<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Signs of an overdose include not responding and can\u2019t be woken up, breathing is slow or non-existent, snoring or gurgling sounds, blue fingernails or lips, cold, clammy skin, and small pupils. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">If you come across someone who is overdosing, WECOSS says to: <\/p>\n<p>Shout and shake their shouldersCall 911 if they are unresponsiveGive naloxone if an opioid overdose is suspectedPerform rescue breathing and\/or chest compressions<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">If it doesn\u2019t improve after two to three minutes, repeat naloxone and chest compressions. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">WECOSS also reminds that the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act has legal protection for people who experience or witness an overdose and calls for help, so stay with the person. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Supports are available on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wecoss.ca\/wec_connect\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WECOSS\u2019 website<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Windsor-Essex Community Opioid and Substance Strategy (WECOSS) is reporting a high number of opioid overdoses over the&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":918214,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[33],"tags":[64,63,137,490],"class_list":["post-918213","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-medication","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-health","tag-medication"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/918213","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=918213"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/918213\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/918214"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=918213"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=918213"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=918213"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
