Jakarta, IO \u2013 <\/a>A group of basketball journalists from the Jurnalis Suka dan Peduli (Jusraga) group held a discussion titled \u201cOne Indonesian Basketball Ecosystem: Coaching, Leagues, Industry, and Achievements\u201d.<\/p>\n

The event, which took place at the Best Western Senayan Meeting Room in Jakarta on Tuesday (October 6, 2026), brought together several stakeholders in Indonesian basketball.<\/p>\n

Present at the discussion were Nirmala Dewi, Secretary General of the Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi), and Junas Miradiarsyah, President Director of the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL).<\/p>\n

The discussion covered various aspects of the Indonesian basketball ecosystem, from player development, competitions, industry, and efforts to improve the performance of the Indonesian men\u2019s national basketball team.<\/p>\n

Nirmala Dewi welcomed the forum. According to her, communication between the federation, the media, and basketball fans is crucial to building a better basketball ecosystem.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s also important for us to receive input, and then we also provide information. Because no organization can be successful without good communication,\u201d said Nirmala.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is part of the communication platform between us as a federation and our friends in the media, or with all the basketball fans in this room,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Junas Miradiarsyah assessed the role of the media as a crucial element in the Indonesian basketball ecosystem. According to Junas, in addition to the league and federation, there are clubs, players, and various other parties that play a role in promoting the development of national basketball.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a positive step to increase experience and appreciation. So, in my opinion, the media\u2019s role is one of the important stakeholders,\u201d said Junas.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe media has a crucial role in building public perception that the sport of basketball is continuously progressing,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

Junas said the discussion is expected to generate various ideas and solutions, both for short-term and long-term needs.\u201dWhat we\u2019re doing today, the discussion, is nothing more than generating ideas and then solutions, both short-term and long-term, so that basketball continues to achieve success,\u201d said Junas.<\/p>\n

He emphasized that the IBL has a responsibility to support the federation\u2019s program in achieving national basketball success.<\/p>\n

\u201cIBL have a role to play in supporting the federation, and we must support it to achieve the best national achievements we desire,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n

The discussion also discussed the impact felt by several teams through the competition format in recent years, including the implementation of the home-and-away system.<\/p>\n

One point of concern was the direction of regulations regarding the use of foreign players in the 2027 IBL competition.<\/p>\n

In the upcoming season, the number of foreign players allowed on the field will be adjusted to a maximum of two foreign players per club.<\/p>\n

This policy is expected to provide more space and opportunities for local players to gain playing time and develop through the IBL competition.<\/p>\n

The discussion also highlighted the importance of youth development to enable more local players to enter the league ecosystem and ultimately increase the selection of players for the national team.<\/p>\n

Encouraging Indonesian Basketball to Become an Industry<\/p>\n

RANS Simba Bogor owner Norman Sebastian also expressed his hopes for the development of the Indonesian basketball ecosystem. He believes that forums like the discussion held by Jusraga can be one step in encouraging Indonesian basketball to develop not only in terms of achievements but also as an industry.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, several legends and former national players, such as Fictor Roring and Wahyu Widayat Jati, also shared their views on the importance of giving local players a greater role.<\/p>\n

They want local competitions to be long-term and consistent so that Indonesian players have sufficient room to develop.<\/p>\n

Similar views were expressed by Indonesian basketball enthusiasts and observers, Augie Fantinus, Udjo Project Pop, and Bima Marzuki.<\/p>\n

They agreed that the IBL (Indonesian Basketball League) in the future should serve as a platform for local players to develop and serve as a foundation for building the strength of the Indonesian men\u2019s national basketball team.<\/p>\n

The Jusraga Forum serves as a shared space for federations, leagues, clubs, former players, basketball enthusiasts, and the media to share ideas and seek solutions for the comprehensive development of Indonesian basketball.<\/p>\n

A similar view was expressed by Indonesian basketball enthusiasts and observers, Augie Fantinus, Udjo Project Pop, and Bima Marzuki.<\/p>\n

They agreed that the IBL (Indonesian Basketball League) should become a platform for local players to develop and serve as a foundation for building the strength of the Indonesian men\u2019s national basketball team.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe IBL and Perbasi (Indonesian Basketball Association) need to study the success stories of local player protection through regulations in the Chinese, South Korean, Taiwanese, and even Spanish leagues. If they can do it, why can\u2019t we?\u201d<\/p>\n

The Jusraga Forum provides a shared space for federations, leagues, clubs, former players, basketball enthusiasts, and the media to share ideas and seek solutions for the comprehensive development of Indonesian basketball.<\/p>\n

With communication and collaboration between stakeholders, it is hoped that the national basketball ecosystem will strengthen, resulting in healthy competition, quality local players, a sustainable industry, and improved performance for the Indonesian national team.
