Married couple Adam and Jolene from Roxby Downs in outback South Australia are the red team building House 1 on The Block Mount Eliza<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The couple work as cattle station managers and have considerable renovating and property experience between them.<\/p>\n

Adam is a qualified carpenter and has worked across numerous construction priojects, while Jolene has worked in property management. Together they have managed the renovation of a station homestead.<\/p>\n

Meet Adam and Jolene<\/p>\n

Adam and Jolene are originally from far north Queensland, and met on Jolene’s property at Weipa.<\/p>\n

They have five adult children between them, and Jolene has described their family as \u201cthe modern day Brady Bunch\u201d.<\/p>\n

The couple are big fans of the The Block and watch every episode, having already applied to be contestants once before.<\/p>\n

Jolene will look after design, styling and shopping, while Adam will put his building experience to work managing the site.<\/p>\n

Adam, 48, cattle station manager<\/p>\n

Adam has worked on multiple building projects, including helping to fix homes in remote communities in Arnhem Land.<\/p>\n

He has an easy-going and positive personality and loves camping, fishing and enjoying nature.<\/p>\n

Jolene, 42, cattle station manager<\/p>\n

Jolene has a background in property management and has managed renovations of investment properties and a new build.<\/p>\n

Like Adam, she enjoys the outdoors and isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty.<\/p>\n

Overall, the judges slammed Adam and Jolene\u2019s efforts, with Marty stating the room presented to them meant the entire house now had no kid\u2019s bedroom at all.<\/p>\n

More in keeping with a study, Darren said if there was a word for the room it would be \u201cmeh.\u201d<\/p>\n

The wardrobe was tiny, and Marty said the space was a bad room, adding no value to the home.<\/p>\n

The redo room \u2013 the guest bedroom \u2013 did not fare much better, with the judges noting not much had been changed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey’ve kept the chair that we hated because you couldn’t walk around. They’ve added some side tables, bedside tables. They’ve changed the pendants. They’ve changed the artwork,\u201d Marty said.<\/p>\n

Disappointed in what he\u2019d seen, Darren added the two rooms were still contenders for a redo.<\/p>\n

Adam and Jolene\u2019s rumpus room and laundry reveal<\/p>\n

Score: 26.5<\/p>\n

Dubbed \u201ca feast of texture,\u201d the rumpus room\u2019s feature wall, which echoed that used in the living room and main bedroom, was praised by the judges.<\/p>\n

A Grafico feature wall was not as well-received, with Marty stating: \u201cI think that’s not shouting luxury at this price point. You don’t see many homes in Mt Eliza at $4 or $5 million with walls that have that type of art.\u201d<\/p>\n

The addition of an exercise machine should have had other amenity included alongside it, Shaynna said, particularly as it would be an area used by children and guests.<\/p>\n

The laundry was dubbed \u201csexy\u201d and functional by the judges.<\/p>\n

Adam and Jolene\u2019s winning kitchen, powder room and lift reveal<\/p>\n

Score: 30<\/p>\n

Scoring a perfect ten from Marty, and a 9.5 each from Darren and Shaynna, saw Adam and Jolene take out the win after playing their gnome point.<\/p>\n

Dubbing the space as spectacular, Darren noted: \u201cIt’s so beautifully cohesive, and it feels so natural. Like every single colour I see in here, I see out there.\u201d<\/p>\n

A sprawling island bench sans a sink meant it commanded attention, Marty noted.<\/p>\n

\u201cLooking at the layout, it’s probably one of the best kitchens I’ve ever seen,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

A wine cabinet and wine area were hits, as well as the taps and door handles, which were described as \u201cjewellery\u201d by Darren Palmer.<\/p>\n

The powder room was hailed by Darren as \u201cprobably one of the most beautiful finished rooms in this house.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adam and Jolene\u2019s guest suite reveal<\/p>\n

Score: 25.5<\/p>\n

Clever with their colour choices, Shaynna praised Adam and Jolene for listening to feedback about paring back their styling, describing the room as \u201cmodern simplicity with just lots of punch of colour.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Darren likened the room to a \u201cmemoir interior,\u201d which he explained as a collection, collation of things which told a story.<\/p>\n

As a guest wing, Marty said he would have liked more amenity such as a sink to \u201cadd value to the buyer.\u201d<\/p>\n

The ensuite was an instant hit, with Darren stating: \u201cI think all of the colour in here is really an appropriate level, an appropriate palette.\u201d<\/p>\n

Score: 27<\/p>\n

Taking out their first win for the season, the judges were impressed, with Marty noting it was \u201cticking a lot of boxes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cI feel like they’ve come leaps and bounds. They’ve grown, but their texture and colour palette makes it feel so warm. It feels rich. It feels inviting,\u201d Shaynna said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like it\u2019s the best room they\u2019ve done, and I wouldn’t have known it was Adam and Jolene if I hadn’t been told, because they have grown so much.\u201d<\/p>\n

The placement of the dining table drew some criticism with Darren noting if it were turned 90 degrees, more views would be on offer.<\/p>\n

Adam and Jolene\u2019s main ensuite reveal<\/p>\n

Score: 21<\/p>\n

If the bathroom had been fully completed, all judges agreed the layout, tiling choices, skylights and inclusions would have seen it as a candidate to win.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn terms of inclusion and amenity, they would have ticked every single possible box,\u201d Darren said.<\/p>\n

Marty labelled it \u201ca hot bathroom\u201d which would sell well.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think their layout is brilliant. I think the colour palette is brilliant and if they did finish, it could be the contender for the day, without a doubt,\u201d Shaynna said.<\/p>\n

Adam and Jolene\u2019s main bedroom and walk-in robe reveal<\/p>\n

Score: 25<\/p>\n

The judges were full of praise upon stepping foot into the walk-in robe with the rendered wall, extensive wardrobe storage and a seated area instant hits.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am extremely satisfied with all these inputs,\u201d Darren said<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it does complement the other two rooms, but it then is elevated, which is what you need to see in that main bedroom,\u201d Marty added.<\/p>\n

The main bedroom was commended by Shaynna for its shape, colours and textures but she did not like that the view from the bed took in a laundry hamper which should have been in the wardrobe.<\/p>\n

Styling issues including the placement of two big chairs and a rug simply needed a simple edit.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like they’ve got an understanding, and they said \u2018This is how we are defining coastal luxury in this home\u2019, and I think they are 90% of getting that absolutely right,\u201d Darren said.<\/p>\n

Adam and Jolene\u2019s family bathroom reveal<\/p>\n

Score: 24.5<\/p>\n

Choosing to omit the powder room door baffled the judges with Shaynna noting how a floorplan can make or break a house and a room.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe’ve walked into this and beautiful stonework, beautiful vanity, beautiful basin, everything state of the art and LED mirror, and we can’t even talk about it because if you’ve got the floor plan wrong, all these incredible finishes become second, third, fourth,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

However, Marty said it would not ruin sales campaign because of the level of finish and the materiality in the palette.<\/p>\n

Score: 22<\/p>\n

The pair\u2019s efforts for the first week were praised, with Marty noting their success in playing it safe with a luxury palette.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s easy to shoot. It doesn’t offend anyone. I think it’s great,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Teaming aged bronze to match the wardrobe and door handles, in addition to elements of quilting, crochet and embroidery, showed Shaynna that Adam and Jolene had a \u201cgood eye\u201d for textures layers.<\/p>\n
