\n\tKavita Gupta\u2019s U.S.-based Cineroost has boarded Prateek Vats\u2019 second feature, \u201cChronicles of a Confession,\u201d as producer, joining Payal Kapadia<\/a> and Anurag Kashyap<\/a> on the project, which starts shooting in early November.<\/p>\n

\n\tCineroost stepped in to handle global representation and U.S. markets, and to help get the film into production. It is the company\u2019s next feature after Vir Das\u2019 \u201cBaara Number.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPenned by Vidur Nauriyal, Vats and Shubham, the drama centers on a Kashmiri shawl seller who admits to a crime he didn\u2019t commit, kicking off a series of events nobody saw coming. The script was chosen for the Busan International Film Festival<\/a>\u2018s Asian Cinema Fund<\/a>, under its script development strand.<\/p>\n

\n\tVats broke through with \u201cEeb Allay Ooo!,\u201d which world premiered at the Pingyao Film Festival in 2019 and took the Golden Gateway award at the Mumbai Film Festival that year. The film went on to screen at the Berlinale in 2020 and at Tribeca\u2019s first online edition.<\/p>\n

\n\tRanjan Singh of Flip Films (\u201cSongs of Forgotten Trees,\u201d \u201cVagachipaani\u201d) produces alongside Dubai\u2019s Action Filmz, India\u2019s Etched Films and Khan & Kumar Productions (\u201cLovers in the Blue Night\u201d). The project\u2019s producing and creative base stretches across India, the U.S. and the U.A.E. Kashyap and Kapadia serve as executive producers.<\/p>\n

\n\tKashyap, who was involved in Vats\u2019 first film, said the director had spent a long time on a script he envies. \u201cI almost want to steal it. And since I can\u2019t, I have jumped on board as an executive producer,\u201d Kashyap said. \u201cIt is an honor to associate with someone as great as Payal Kapadia who I have seen sticking to her voice and her ground as a filmmaker and then there is my own producer Ranjan Singh. What was there in this to not want to be part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAnand Bansal (\u201cDhuin,\u201d \u201cGamak Ghar,\u201d \u201cThe Elephant Whisperers\u201d) is behind the camera, with Rajesh Thanickan (\u201cSantosh,\u201d \u201cHomebound\u201d) as supervising producer. Devika Dave (\u201cBoong,\u201d \u201cSherni\u201d) handles production design, Himani Dehalvi (\u201cTrial by Fire\u201d) costumes and Bigyna Dahal (\u201cThe Fable,\u201d \u201cKhauff\u201d) sound design.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cPrateek\u2019s films mix humor and political commentary in a unique way which I have always admired. And this new project takes this to an even higher level,\u201d Kapadia said.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u2018Chronicles of a Confession\u2019 has been brewing for some years and I am thrilled that it is going on floor now,\u201d Vats said. \u201cThe film solidifies my collaboration with producer Ranjan Singh, who has been with me since my debut feature, \u2018Eeb Allay Ooo!’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGupta\u2019s earliest film projects, 13 years ago, were with Kashyap, and the two have remained close. \u201cStrong writing, the best creators and a stellar global creative team, everything about this film aligned with my vision for Cineroost \u2013 rare, global and rooted,\u201d Gupta said.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film marks the second major step in building out Cineroost\u2019s slate.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBusiness from films is not for my sustenance but really for my soul and passion,\u201d Gupta said. \u201cI find that to be a strength in the work I do in the creative world. I have the privilege of flirting with risk more than others.\u201d<\/p>\n
