{"id":920191,"date":"2026-10-08T04:04:09","date_gmt":"2026-10-08T04:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/920191\/"},"modified":"2026-10-08T04:04:09","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T04:04:09","slug":"australian-open-1-point-slam-to-feature-carlos-alcaraz-jannik-sinner-coco-gauff-and-naomi-osaka","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/920191\/","title":{"rendered":"Australian Open 1 Point Slam to feature Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Coco Gauff and Naomi Osaka"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The Australian Open&#8217;s 1 Point Slam will again have some star power in January with Carlos Alcaraz, Coco Gauff, Naomi Osaka and Jannik Sinner among the players set to compete against pros and amateur qualifiers for a $1 million prize.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">At the Australian Open launch today, organisers said qualifying events for the <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-01-15\/australian-open-one-point-slam-winner-jordan-smith\/106230542\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/106230542\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">1 Point Slam are underway at clubs across the country<\/a>, and a further two days of qualifying will be held during opening week ahead of the first grand slam tournament of the year from January 17 to 31.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The 1 Point Slam final will see the pros competing against amateurs and wild cards for the prize at Rod Laver Arena on January 13.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Jordan Smith, a little-known local amateur player, beat Sinner and went on to make himself a millionaire after winning the 1 Point Slam last January.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Smith won on the third stroke of the final when Joanna Garland, the women&#8217;s number 117 from Taiwan, sent a two-handed backhand wide.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-01-15\/australian-open-2026-who-is-jordan-smith-1-point-slam-winner\/106231406\" data-component=\"FullBleedLink\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jordan Smith cashes in<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP RelatedCard_synopsis__cFwMW Typography_sizeMobile14__u7TGe Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Jordan Smith comes from a tennis-mad family in Sydney and is now a millionaire thanks to a couple of days&#8217; work at the Australian Open.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">All the matches lasted just one single point in a knockout bracket that included men and women, professionals and amateurs, plus celebrities such as Taiwanese pop star Jay Chou, who was knocked out without hitting a ball after an ace from Petar Jovic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;At the heart of the creation of the 1 Point Slam is our desire to even more deeply connect the Australian Open to every tennis community in the country,&#8221;
