In the familiar world of Bridgerton, where love stories usually end in lavish weddings and every new ball brings at least one scandal, Lady Violet has always been the person who understands the rules of the game best. Over four seasons, we have watched her advise her children, try to match them with the right people and, when necessary, deftly take matters into her own hands. Yet while we were falling in love with Daphne and Simon, Anthony and Kate, Colin and Penelope, and then Benedict and Sophie, we knew surprisingly little about the love story of the woman who raised all those great romantics. Now it is her turn. Netflix has officially confirmed a new Bridgerton series that will follow Violet Bridgerton’s youth and her love story with Edmund Bridgerton.

What is the new series about?

The new series will be the second Bridgerton prequel, following the huge success of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story in 2023. This time, we are going back to a time when Violet was not yet a widow, a mother of eight or one of the most influential women in London high society, but a young Violet Ledger who had yet to meet her future husband, Viscount Edmund Bridgerton. Their marriage is one of the most important love stories in the entire series, although so far we have come to know it mainly through Violet’s memories. We know they married for love, a privilege that was not particularly common in the world of aristocratic marriages, and that Edmund’s sudden death following a bee sting had a profound impact on the entire family. Their relationship shaped Violet’s belief that her children should not settle for loveless marriages, which is essentially the driving force behind this entire universe.

Interestingly, this story also has a literary basis, though not in the form we might expect. Julia Quinn wrote a short novella, Violet in Bloom, published in the collection The Bridgertons: Happily Ever After, but she has explained that it does not follow the conventional development of Violet and Edmund’s romance. Netflix now has the opportunity to develop in greater detail the love story that readers and viewers have wanted to discover for years. The new series will probably show us more than the calm, composed Violet we know, something the latest season of Bridgerton also hinted at. In a conversation with Benedict, Violet admitted that she had been impulsive, passionate and rebellious in her youth, far more like her son than he could have imagined. After watching her reassess her own desires and her relationship with Marcus Anderson in season four, a return to the beginnings of her love life could reveal an entirely different side of our beloved Lady Bridgerton.

Who will play the young Violet Bridgerton?

Although Netflix has officially confirmed the project, the cast has not yet been announced. Ruth Gemmell plays Violet in the original series, while Connie Jenkins-Greig portrayed her younger self in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, so her name naturally comes up among the possible contenders.

Fans, however, have also begun suggesting other names, with Emily Bader, known for Netflix’s adaptation of the novel People We Meet on Vacation, emerging as a particular favourite. Social media users have been commenting on her physical resemblance to Ruth Gemmell, while Jonah Hauer-King, whom we saw in Disney’s The Little Mermaid, has also been mentioned for the role of the young Edmund.

We do, however, know who will be working behind the camera. Shonda Rhimes and Nicholas Nardini, who collaborated on Queen Charlotte, will serve as writers, showrunners and executive producers on the new project. They will be joined by Betsy Beers and director Tom Verica, another familiar name from the Bridgerton universe.

When will the new series arrive?

Netflix has not yet revealed the official title or premiere date, and details of when filming will begin have yet to be announced. For now, all that has been confirmed is that it will be a limited series. Meanwhile, production on Bridgerton season five is underway in London, and its central love story will belong to Francesca Bridgerton, played by Hannah Dodd, and Michaela Stirling, played by Masali Baduza. To make things even better for fans of this universe, a sixth season of the original series has also been confirmed.

After four seasons in which Violet’s children found their happy endings, Bridgerton is now turning to the woman who shaped her family’s understanding of love in the first place. Before she became the Lady Bridgerton we know, Violet, too, was a young woman with her own desires, fears and, if her words are anything to go by, a decidedly rebellious streak. Judging by how much we all adored Queen Charlotte, I cannot wait to see what romantic monologues and intrigues Shonda Rhimes has in store for us this time.

In the familiar world of Bridgerton, where love stories usually end in lavish weddings and every new ball…

[29
64,63,134,427
post-922106","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-tv","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-entertainment","tag-tv
["GET
