Former reality star Matthew \u2018Matty J\u2019 Johnson has released a lengthy statement calling out violence against women after his fellow The Bachelor alum Sam Wood was refused bail on domestic violence charges. <\/p>\n

In a lengthy post, Johnson said it had taken him \u201ca little while\u201d to put his \u201cthoughts about the allegations against Sam Wood into words.\u201d <\/p>\n

Matty J has released a lengthy statement calling out violence against women following domestic violence charges being laid against Sam Wood. \u00a0Instagram\/@matthewdavidjohnson<\/p>\n

He starts the Instagram post by recalling the first time he saw Wood in public, explaining he was \u201cstepping out of a flashy European car, dressed sharply, when someone asked him to stop and take a photo.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a snapshot of the kind of public profile he had built. It looked to me like real success. It\u2019s a funny thing, the way we form impressions of people. Sometimes it only takes a few seconds to decide who someone is and what their life represents.\u201d <\/p>\n

He went on to write: \u201cMaybe that\u2019s part of the problem.\u201d <\/p>\n

Johnson said that after he went on The Bachelor, Wood reached out to him to offer support and he \u201ctook him up on it,\u201d before making it clear he \u201cis not and never has been\u201d a friend of Wood. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe both went on the same TV show, and as a byproduct of that our paths crossed a handful of times.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to say he was \u201cshocked\u201d after hearing the allegations against Wood, explaining what stunned him was how the allegations \u201ccontradict the image many of us had mistakenly formed of him.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThe man I once saw as a benchmark for success has now been charged for a crime that represents the very worst in what men are capable of.\u201d <\/p>\n

Johnson went on to urge men to self-reflect and \u201cchallenge the version of masculinity they inherited rather than blindly pass it on.\u201d <\/p>\n

Johnson made it clear he was \u201cnever\u201d friends with Wood but they had interacted in the past. \u00a0Instagram\/@Samwood<\/p>\n

Wood was denied bail and transferred to Brisbane Correctional Centre earlier this week after the court heard that he allegedly pushed and choked his wife Snezana at a luxury apartment in Noosa last Saturday. <\/p>\n

The court heard allegations that the incident had resulted from an argument about going to bed or packing for their departure the next day after Wood and his wife had returned from dinner.<\/p>\n

In refusing bail, Magistrate Janelle Boegheim described the allegations as Wood having pushed his wife with one hand into a wall and then to the ground, before grabbing the alleged victim around the neck \u201cgripping tight and restricting the airway\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s alleged Snezana told police that she thought \u201cthat this was it, that her life was going to end\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Boegheim described strangulation as a \u201cparticularly grave form of violence\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sergeant Jeanette Grigoris earlier told the court police had obtained a video-recorded statement from Snezana, who alleges she experienced \u201ccessations of breath\u201d and the \u201cbanging of her head on the floor… that she couldn\u2019t breathe\u201d.<\/p>\n

Woods has been charged with\u00a0two domestic violence offences, assault occasioning bodily harm and strangulation in a domestic setting.\u00a0He is defending the charges.<\/p>\n
