Former New York Knicks<\/a> two-way guard Dillon Jones<\/a> established himself as one of the G League\u2019s most versatile players last season, but his impact at the NBA<\/a> level remained limited during the franchise\u2019s run to the 2026 championship.<\/p>\n Following an underwhelming<\/a> 2026 Summer League, the Knicks opted against bringing Jones back on another two-way contract. Instead, the 24-year-old joined the Philadelphia 76ers<\/a> on an Exhibit-10 training camp deal<\/a> in early September.<\/p>\n The former first-round pick has since been competing with Philadelphia throughout training camp and preseason, and his performances appear to have made a positive impression.<\/p>\n Even if Jones fails to secure an NBA roster spot, the Sixers could look to retain him within their developmental system, potentially leaving New York to watch a promising former player strengthen an Eastern Conference rival.<\/p>\n New York Knicks Could Regret Letting Two-Way Standout Leave<\/p>\n Justin Grasso of The Sixer Sense<\/a> believes Jones has done enough to remain within Philadelphia\u2019s organization, even if he ultimately misses out on a two-way contract.<\/p>\n The Sixers could instead send him to their G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, allowing him to continue developing while remaining available for a potential NBA opportunity.<\/p>\n \u201cClearly, Jones has done enough for the 76ers to want to keep him close, even if he doesn\u2019t get a chance to stick around in Philly on a two-way deal,\u201d Grasso wrote. \u201cNever say never for Jones on the two-way front, but know that if another organization doesn\u2019t scoop him up, he has a good chance at staying close in Delaware.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe Sixers have found plenty of success in recent years, finding impressive two-way talent with the Coats. Jones is clearly leaving some level of impact on the organization through his first two weeks of camp.\u201d<\/p>\n Jones offered a glimpse of his potential during a recent preseason victory over his former team.<\/p>\n Facing the Knicks, he recorded<\/a> 11 points, six rebounds, and two assists in 18 minutes, shooting 3-of-6 from the field while committing just one turnover.<\/p>\n Although he subsequently went scoreless in a loss to the Brooklyn Nets<\/a>, Jones still contributed two rebounds, three assists, and one steal.<\/p>\n His performance against New York was particularly encouraging, highlighting the versatility that made him such an intriguing developmental prospect last season.<\/p>\n Jones Could Remain With Sixers After G League Trade<\/p>\n Jones\u2019 prospects of remaining within Philadelphia\u2019s developmental system received another boost on October 8, when the Delaware Blue Coats acquired his G League returning player rights in a multi-team trade<\/a>.<\/p>\n The deal also involved the Rip City Remix and Coachella Valley Lakers<\/a>, with Delaware acquiring Jones\u2019 rights and a 2026 second-round draft pick.<\/p>\n In exchange, the Blue Coats surrendered the returning player rights to Dmytro Skapintsev<\/a> and Max Abmas<\/a>, along with a 2027 draft pick.<\/p>\n However, Jones\u2019 chances of securing a two-way contract could be complicated by Philadelphia\u2019s frontcourt concerns.<\/p>\n With Ariel Hukporti<\/a> suffering a season-ending ruptured right Achilles tendon and Adem Bona<\/a> recovering from a foot injury, the Sixers may need to prioritize additional size rather than another guard\/wing.<\/p>\n New York originally signed Jones to a two-way contract in January<\/a> after acquiring him from Rip City, the Portland Trail Blazers<\/a>\u2018 G League affiliate.<\/p>\n At the time, he ranked fifth in the G League with 181 assists and 15th with 45 steals.
