{"id":923565,"date":"2026-10-10T23:12:14","date_gmt":"2026-10-10T23:12:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/923565\/"},"modified":"2026-10-10T23:12:14","modified_gmt":"2026-10-10T23:12:14","slug":"supercars-news-larry-perkins-to-deliver-peter-brock-trophy-at-bathurst-1000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/923565\/","title":{"rendered":"Supercars news: Larry Perkins to deliver Peter Brock Trophy at Bathurst 1000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" width=\"4000\" height=\"2667\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/public.jpeg\" class=\"sc-hero-img\" alt=\"Special delivery for Peter Brock Trophy at Bathurst 1000\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tPhoto: Richard Gresham<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019ll mark a fitting crescendo to week-long festivities commemorating 20 years since the death of nine-time Bathurst winner Brock.<\/p>\n<p>Perkins will chauffeur the trophy in the Perkins Engineering Holden Commodore driven by Brock in the 1991 race.<\/p>\n<p>Brock\u2019s season aboard the Mobil VN marked the icon\u2019s return to Holden and reunited a duo that won the Great Race three times together at the Holden Dealer Team.<\/p>\n<p>The 1991 Commodore is now owned by Kenny Habul and was recently restored by Perkins Engineering, which is these days run by Larry\u2019s son Jack.<\/p>\n<p>Perkins and Brock were vastly different but complementary characters when teamed up at HDT, where the former was contracted to prepare and co-drive the cars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I joined I wanted to run the team my way,\u201d Perkins reflected on the Fox Sports broadcast in a segment paying tribute to Brock.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-976726\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/1984_Peter_Brock_Larry_Perkins_Bathurst_1000_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Brock and Perkins won the 1982, \u201983 and \u201984 Bathurst 1000s together. Image: Glenis Lindley<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe let me run it my way and he went off doing his PR thing, which he was very good at. We had a nice clear line of responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat went on for three and a half years. I enjoyed that I was allowed to run it my way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe success of the vehicle and the PR meant it was always very well funded.
