For the designer, the collaboration was an opportunity to push the boundaries of his signature aesthetic. \u201cYou had all of these amazing references, and what I really loved was that Giulia respected the brand,\u201d he explains. \u201cYou were really into the neckline and having this couture swoop that we\u2019ve become known for doing, and then you pushed us to our limits with the drama and elegance and the craftsmanship.\u201d<\/p>\n
The end result is three looks in one. There\u2019s an extraordinarily long veil, a dramatic bohemian cape jacket with lace bell sleeves, and Harris\u2019s interpretation of a sweetheart neckline, reimagined in liquid silk. \u201cConor loves it whenever I wear lace,\u201d Giulia says, with a smile. \u201cI\u2019ll leave it at that! He for sure is going to be very excited. I\u2019ve also never seen him cry and we\u2019ve been together for almost five years, so I think my only chance is the element of surprise. If he doesn\u2019t cry, I\u2019m going to be like, \u2018We\u2019re doing this again! Let\u2019s restart the wedding march.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
The collaboration with Harris began with a DM on Instagram. \u201cI was getting on a plane, and you texted me on Instagram and were like, \u2018Let\u2019s do my wedding,\u2019 and I was like, \u2018Let\u2019s do it,\u2019\u201d Harris recalls. From there, the two began discussing everything from fabrics and silhouettes to how Giulia wanted to feel on her wedding day. \u201cIt\u2019s just having a very organic, real conversation, which sounds really basic but no one does that anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n
Once the cape jacket has been removed, Giulia FaceTimes her mother to show her the dress. The call includes with plenty of \u201coohs\u201d and \u201caahs.\u201d \u201cWe\u2019re going to kill it,\u201d she says. \u201cThey\u2019re going to be like \u2018Wow! Stunning, stunning, stunning!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Ultimately, Giulia wasn\u2019t interested in playing it safe. \u201cI wanted drama,\u201d she says. \u201cAt the end of the day, of course, I am classic in a lot of ways, but there\u2019s also a side of me that\u2019s very maximalist.
