The McLaren driver was sitting in fourth and did not have the pace to challenge championship leader Kimi Antonelli in third. <\/p>\n

\u201cIs there anyway to help out behind or not,\u201d he asked, referring to his teammate Oscar Piastri who was stuck in sixth behind Lewis Hamilton, who was dropping paces due to tyre degradation<\/p>\n
Norris tried again a few laps later. <\/p>\n
\u201cShall I try and help Oscar out or not,\u201d Norris said over the radio.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo keep going,\u201d his engineer replied.<\/p>\n
Norris\u2019 repeated offers of help were the signs of a good teammate, but also could represent a sheepish driver, who as F1 commentator Martin Brundle noted was trying to \u201cget back in McLaren\u2019s good books\u201d. <\/p>\n
Piastri didn\u2019t end up needing his teammate help, overtaking Hamilton in a last-lap battle to clinch fifth \u2013 a solid result since his race was marred by a slow pitstop and tyre puncture. <\/p>\n
A flawless Max Verstappen went on to win the Singapore Grand Prix with a blistering performance that saw him lead every lap from pole. <\/p>\n

However, a lot of attention was on the McLaren duo, Piastri and Norris following their collision during the sprint race on Saturday. <\/p>\n
Norris attempted to overtake his teammate in the final lap of the sprint, but clipped the Australian\u2019s rear tyre with his front wheel. <\/p>\n
The impact sent Piastri spinning into the wall and knocked both papaya cars out of podium contention.<\/p>\n
Norris later copped scrutiny on social media for his comments in a post-race interview when he sarcastically responded to a journalist who implied his move was \u201cunnecessary\u201d. <\/p>\n
\u201cWhat\u2019s the title of the race?\u201d he asked an interviewer.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat\u2019s after \u2018sprint\u2019?\u201d<\/p>\n
When the interviewer replied \u201crace\u201d, he laughed and sarcastically said: \u201cWow, good job\u201d.<\/p>\n
Before Sunday\u2019s main race Zak Brown was uncharacteristically open about how McLaren dealt with the situation. <\/p>\n
\u201cThat was a \u2018don\u2019t do that again\u2019, and we didn\u2019t say please, that\u2019s an order,\u201d he told Sky Sports when asked if he had stern words for the duo.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can\u2019t have that, it was unnecessary result for the team when a lot of pressure is on.\u201d<\/p>\n
On Sunday, it was clear Norris had listened to the reprimands, offering repeatedly to help Piastri out. <\/p>\n
There were no collisions or racing incidents between the duo during Sunday\u2019s race. It was ultimately a slow 4.2 second pitstop that hurt Piastri\u2019s chances of a higher finish. The Australian was also forced to come into the pits a second time after a tyre puncture. <\/p>\n
It paints a painful picture of a 2026 season that has not gone to plan for Piastri. <\/p>\n

On the other end of the scale is Kimi Antonelli \u2013 who after finishing third in Singapore\u2013 is now mathematically capable of winning the title at the next race in Texas. <\/p>\n
If so, it would make him the youngest world champion in history. <\/p>\n
When informed of this during a post-race interview, a wide-eyed Kimi Antonelli said he had no idea. <\/p>\n
\u201cCan I really?, \u201d he said.<\/p>\n
