Kristaps Porzingis<\/a> has been away from the Warriors for the past two weeks due to an undisclosed health issue<\/a>, but the Latvian big man will be at Chase Center on Tuesday while the team is in Las Vegas to face the Lakers for another preseason game, writes Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, he\u2019ll be here tomorrow,\u201d head coach Steve Kerr said after Monday\u2019s practice. \u201cNo update beyond that. But he\u2019ll be in the building meeting with Rick [Celebrini] and the performance staff.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kerr said he isn\u2019t sure whether or not Porzingis will be available for the regular season opener against the Lakers on October 21.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll that will be determined once we get him back here and have discussions and figure out where he is with all that stuff,\u201d Kerr said.<\/p>\n

Although Porzingis hasn\u2019t been around the team the past couple weeks, he has been in regular communication with the front office and Celebrini, Golden State\u2019s director of sports medicine and performance, per Anthony Slater of ESPN<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Danny Emerman of The San Francisco Standard<\/a> recently wrote that the Warriors have said they aren\u2019t sure where Porzingis has been the past two weeks, and they also don\u2019t know the exact nature of his health issue.<\/p>\n

Porzingis has been impacted during the past two seasons by postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), but there has been no confirmation one way or the other about whether the health issue currently sidelining him is related to that diagnosis.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s more on the Warriors:<\/p>\n

Kerr initially thought he was going to start Al Horford<\/a> in center in Porzingis\u2019 absence. However, Gui Santos<\/a> has joined Stephen Curry<\/a>, Brandin Podziemski<\/a>, Yaxel Lendeborg<\/a> and Draymond Green<\/a> in the starting five for the past two preseason games, and the Warriors\u2019 coach indicated Monday he\u2019s \u201cleaning toward\u201d utilizing that same starting group for the regular season. \u201cAl could be in there, but given just where he is minutes-wise per game \u2026 if a guy\u2019s going to play 20, which is probably about the limit or where we\u2019d like him to average, it\u2019s just a lot easier to bring him off the bench,\u201d Kerr said, per Johnson. \u201cI also like the idea of having Draymond or Al on the court as often as possible to anchor our defense. So yeah, I\u2019m leaning that way.\u201d
\nAs Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area<\/a> writes, Kerr talked late last week about some of Golden State\u2019s options in the middle with Porzingis out \u2014 at least for now \u2014 indefinitely. He also discussed the reasoning behind the frontcourt trio of Santos, Lendeborg and Green, though the team prefers not to use Green at center. \u201cWith the fact that we have Yaxel now, you\u2019d get a 6-10 guy next to (Green),\u201d Kerr said. \u201cIf we go that route, it makes it a little more palatable. And if we pair them with Gui (6-foot-8), now all of a sudden, you got three good-sized guys at their positions, and it doesn\u2019t feel as small as in the past couple years. But it\u2019s not ideal.\u201d
\nIn an interview with Bonta Hill and Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area (YouTube link<\/a>), Curry says he and the team are \u201cembracing\u201d the fact that people are doubting them this season.
\nGovernor Joe Lacob recently spoke to Ron Kroichick of The San Francisco Chronicle<\/a> about Curry\u2019s new two-year extension, the potential to create cap room next summer, the team\u2019s offseason moves, Jimmy Butler<\/a>, Kerr, and Lendeborg. Regarding Curry\u2019s extension, Lacob said the following: \u201cWe were going to take care of him and make sure he stays, no matter what. Fortunately, we were able to convince him if he wanted to help out \u2026 he saw the benefit of that. And we\u2019re very appreciative, obviously. If he would take even less, we\u2019d be happier (smiling). But we appreciate what he\u2019s done. Most players don\u2019t ever take less, and he didn\u2019t have to \u2014 if he had demanded to take all of it, we\u2019d have paid it.
