One Nation\u2019s NSW leader Mike Newman has been escorted out of parliamentary Question Time after he entered the chamber without having been elected.<\/p>\n
Mr Newman has not been elected as an MP in NSW, but will run for the seat of Cessnock in the Hunter Valley in the 2027 state election in March.<\/p>\n
He entered the adviser area of the Legislative Assembly chamber on Wednesday, before he was escorted out.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI did find it quite funny, the machinations that went on beforehand,\u201d Mr Newman told News24.com.au after the event.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Sergeant of Arms said that things were getting a little bit uncomfortable, so they had to move me on.<\/p>\n
\u201cI did find it quite amusing that we’re creating that much consternation within the Labor Party.\u201d<\/p>\n
Shortly after he was kicked out, Mr Newman attempted to hold a press conference on the balcony of Parliament House, but was kicked off.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Sergeant at Arms ushered us off. This is a government that is living in the shadow of a rising One Nation party,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
NSW Premier Chris Minns mocked Mr Newman during Question Time, saying \u201cHe just turned up\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think he saw that bloke jump over the barrier and he went, ‘That’s how you get in here’,\u201d Mr Minns said, referencing a protester who broke in on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
While Mr Newman has not yet been elected, News24.com.au recently revealed One Nation could win more than 20 seats, according to internal Labor polling.<\/p>\n
Ahead of the March 2027 election, NSW Labor polling indicates Mr Newman could become the state opposition leader.<\/p>\n
Opposition Leader Kellie Sloane would be relegated to third, with the Nationals virtually wiped out.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s according to polling commissioned by Labor, which believes Premier Chris Minns will win the election.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe’re not going up against Labor or the Coalition, we’re going in to bat for the people of New South Wales,\u201d Mr Newman said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The One Nation leader told News24.com.au that he wanted to see less regulation, less red tape and lower taxes in the state.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe’re listening to everyone out there in the hustings and that’s the feedback that we’re getting,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo they can live in denial that things are somehow going rosy under this Labor government, but (the economy is) growing at a puny one per cent.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd a lot of that actually relies on federal government support for their renewable energy programme.\u201d<\/p>\n
Opposition Leader Kellie Sloane has played down the threat of One Nation, saying the Coalition’s challenge was still against Labor.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don’t take any seat or any vote for granted, but at the moment, One Nation, I think, only has one endorsed candidate,\u201d she said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey need to be held accountable, though, if they are the threat that the polls are saying they are.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Sloane said she was willing to work with One Nation if the Coalition won minority government at the election.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would happy to work with One Nation for confidence and supply. But I’m looking to govern in our own right.\u201d<\/p>\n
