More than 3 million Australians over 65 have private health insurance.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Health Minister Mark Butler.\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/35e7f43934b71d90efaecd890954f0ed0249a174.jpeg\"  class=\"sc-d34e428-1 ioInpc\"\/>Health Minister Mark Butler.Alex Ellinghausen<\/p>\n<p>Opposition health and aged care spokeswoman Anne Ruston and independent senator Jacqui Lambie tabled the motion to have the Private Health Insurance Amendment (Modernising the Private Health Insurance Rebate) Bill 2026 removed from the Senate notice paper. It was successful with the support of the Coalition, independents, Greens and One Nation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday the Senate stood with older Australians. Labor was left standing alone with its cuts,\u201d Ruston said. \u201cThis is a win for every pensioner who has paid their premiums for decades and was about to be punished for it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMark Butler should take the hint. Don\u2019t try to sneak this cut back onto the agenda.
