Hot off a blockbuster 2026 between three hit movies, soon a fourth, plus an Emmy nomination, Zendaya<\/a> has lined up her next acting project.<\/p>\n

Details are under wraps, but the 30-year-old \u201cEuphoria\u201d and \u201cChallengers\u201d actor will next star in a new science-fiction film<\/a> from writer\/director Alex Garland<\/a> at A24<\/a>, as the company announced on Thursday. The project will mark the British filmmaker\u2019s fifth collaboration with A24, which distributed his debut directing effort \u201cEx Machina,\u201d along with \u201cMen,\u201d \u201cCivil War,\u201d and \u201cWarfare\u201d (co-directed with former U.S. Navy SEAL Ray Mendoza). Garland wrapped production on A24\u2019s most expensive in-house film production yet, the adaptation of the hit video game \u201cElden Ring<\/a>,\u201d earlier this year. The film is set for release in March 2028.<\/p>\n

Production on Garland\u2019s new science-fiction film will begin sometime in 2027, according to A24. Garland\u2019s work in the genre dates back to collaborations with director Danny Boyle, including the outer-space thriller \u201cSunshine.\u201d His directing efforts, from the artificial-intelligence thriller \u201cEx Machina\u201d to the cosmic-horror movie \u201cAnnihilation\u201d at Paramount, tend to hover around science-fiction themes. \u201cCivil War,\u201d which set A24 box-office records in 2024, imagined a fictional near-future collapse of the United States with sci-fi elements. At that point, it was A24\u2019s costliest in-house movie. <\/p>\n

Back in 2024<\/a> circa \u201cCivil War,\u201d Garland told IndieWire he\u2019d be stepping back from directing for the \u201cforeseeable future,\u201d before a slew of behind-the-camera projects followed. <\/p>\n

Zendaya, meanwhile, starred in three acclaimed films this year that grossed nearly $4.5 billion combined at the global box office: \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day,\u201d \u201cThe Odyssey,\u201d and A24\u2019s \u201cThe Drama.\u201d She also scored a Best Actress in a Drama Series Emmy nomination for \u201cEuphoria,\u201d which ended its three-season run earlier this year. Next up, she stars in \u201cDune: Part Three,\u201d which looks to crash the Oscar race<\/a> when it opens on IMAX screens starting December 18.<\/p>\n

A24 hit the $200 million global box office milestone this year with \u201cBackrooms,\u201d and has opened a raft of other hits, including \u201cThe Drama\u201d and, most recently,\u00a0Robert Pattinson-starrer \u201cPrimetime,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0throughout 2026 to company-record-setting success.
