\n\tTaylor Swift<\/a> and Jack Antonoff <\/a>appear to be the Grammy front-runners for best song written for visual media with \u201cI Knew It, I Knew You,\u201d the charming pop\/country tune they co-wrote for Toy Story 5. It would be Swift\u2019s second win in this category: \u201cSafe & Sound,\u201d which she co-wrote with T Bone Burnett and The Civil Wars for The Hunger Games, won in 2013.<\/p>\n

\n\tMoreover, it would be the second song from this film franchise to win in this category: Randy Newman<\/a>\u2019s \u201cWhen She Loved Me\u201d from Toy Story 2 won in 2001. This would mark the first time that songs from two separate installments of a film franchise have won.<\/p>\n

\n\tThere are 149 songs on this year\u2019s entry list in this category vying for just five or six slots on the final ballot. (The number has varied in recent years.) What other songs are likely to be in the running when the 69th annual Grammy nominations are announced on Nov. 16?<\/p>\n

\n\tLady Gaga<\/a> and Doechii<\/a> have a good chance with \u201cRunway,\u201d which they co-wrote with Dernst \u201cD Mile\u201d Emile II, Jayda Love, Bruno Mars, Cirkut and Andrew Watt for The Devil Wears Prada 2. Gaga is a two-time winner in the category for co-writing \u201cShallow\u201d (2019) and \u201cI\u2019ll Never Love Again\u201d (2020), both from A Star Is Born. (The Grammy entry list does not list Gaga as a co-writer, but that will likely be corrected if the song makes it to the final ballot.)<\/p>\n

\n\tA second song from The Devil Wears Prada 2 is also in the running: \u201cMaterial Lover,\u201d which Sienna Spiro<\/a> co-wrote with Omer Fedi and Michael Pollack. Spiro is one of the likely front-runners for best new artist.<\/p>\n

\n\tLudwig G\u00f6ransson<\/a>, who had two nominated songs in the category at the Grammy ceremony earlier this year (\u201cI Lied to You\u201d and \u201cPale, Pale Moon,\u201d both from Sinners), is entered with \u201cWhen I\u2019m Home\u201d from The Odyssey (which he co-wrote with James Blake, Travis Scott and the film\u2019s director, Christopher Nolan). The Odyssey is the second-highest grossing film of 2026, behind Spider Man: Brand New Day.<\/p>\n

\n\tLin-Manuel Miranda<\/a>, a two-time winner in the category, is entered with \u201cAlong the Way\u201d from Moana (which he cowrote with Opetaia Foa\u2019i and Mark Mancina). Miranda\u2019s previous wins are both for songs he wrote by himself: \u201cHow Far I\u2019ll Go\u201d from the original Moana and \u201cWe Don\u2019t Talk About Bruno\u201d from Encanto.<\/p>\n

\n\tDiane Warren<\/a>, who has received a record 11 nominations in this category, is entered with \u201cBy Any Means\u201d from the film of the same name. The Isley Brothers and David Kushner performed the song on the film\u2019s soundtrack. Warren\u2019s only win in the category to date is for \u201cBecause You Loved Me\u201d from Up Close & Personal.<\/p>\n

\n\tTwo songs that were best original song nominees at the Oscar ceremony held earlier this year are on the Grammy entry list this year: \u201cTrain Dreams\u201d by Nick Cave<\/a> and Bryce Dessner<\/a>, from the film of the same name; and \u201cSweet Dreams of Joy\u201d by Nicholas Pike, from Viva Verdi!<\/p>\n

\n\tIn addition, five songs that were shortlisted for Oscar nominations but didn\u2019t go on to be nominated are on the entry list here, including two songs from Wicked: For Good: \u201cThe Girl in the Bubble\u201d and \u201cNo Place Like Home.\u201d Stephen Schwartz wrote both songs, which were performed in the film by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, respectively.<\/p>\n

\n\tOther Oscar-shortlisted songs that are on the Grammy entry list are \u201cDream as One\u201d from Avatar: Fire and Ash (which Miley Cyrus<\/a> co-wrote with Simon Franglen, Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt); \u201cSalt Then Sour Then Sweet\u201d from Come See Me in the Good Light (which Sara Bareilles and Brandi Carlile co-wrote with Andrea Gibson); and \u201cDying to Live\u201d from Billy Idol Should Be Dead (which Billy Idol and J. Ralph co-wrote with Tommy English, Joe Janiak and Steve Stevens).<\/p>\n

\n\tOther songs on the entry list that appeared in films that rank among top 25 top-grossing films of the year-to-date in the U.S. and Canada include \u201cZoo\u201d from Zootopia 2 (which Shakira co-wrote with Ed Sheeran and Blake Slatkin); \u201cHouse\u201d from Wuthering Heights (written and performed by Charli xcx and John Cale); and \u201cI\u2019m Good\u201d from GOAT (which Jelly Roll co-wrote with John Byron, Ben Johnson, Hunter Phelps and Taylor Philips).<\/p>\n

\n\tSeveral songs from projects associated with top music personalities are also on the entry list. These include \u201cWhat Lies With You\u201d from Linda Perry: Let It Die Here (which she wrote); \u201cOne in a Long Line\u201d from Lilith Fair: Building a Mystery (Sarah McLachlan & Anne Preven); \u201cLight Up\u201d from Kylie (Duck Blackwell, Luke Fitton, Chris Martin, Kylie Minogue and Richard Stannard); \u201cI\u2019m Never Gonna R.I.P.\u201d from Nimrods (Billie Joe Armstrong, Tr\u00e9 Cool and Mike Dirnt); and \u201cMy Cross To Bear from Gregg Allman: The Music of My Soul (Julian Raymond).<\/p>\n

\n\tAnd don\u2019t forget about: \u201cHow to Write a Song Without You (Pop Version)\u201d from Power Ballad (written by John Carney and Gary Clark and performed by Nick Jonas).<\/p>\n

\n\tBecause this Grammy category includes songs written for TV and other visual media in addition to film, the entry list includes \u201cNeed Someone\u201d from The Pitt, which won a Primetime Emmy last month for outstanding original words and music. Andrew Bird wrote the song.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe entry list includes four additional songs that were nominated in that Emmy category: \u201cChristian Woman\u201d from South Park (Trey Parker); \u201cRaise Him Up\u201d from The Boys (written by Daveed Diggs, Eric Kripke and Christopher Lennertz); \u201cMis Figuritas\u201d from Hacks (Carlos Rafael Rivera & David Stal) and \u201cThe Devil You Know\u201d from Spider-Noir (Warren Felder, Sebastian Kole, Daniel Pemberton and Jayme Silverstein).<\/p>\n

\n\tA song from this year\u2019s buzziest TV miniseries is also on the entry list \u2013 \u201cIt\u2019s You\u201d from Heated Rivalry (written by Peter Jones). So is a song from a hot TV soundtrack \u2013 \u201cGravity\u201d from Hazbin Hotel Season 2 (written by Sam Haft and Andrew Underberg).<\/p>\n

\n\tSo, what songs are likely to be nominated? If there are six nominees, as there have been in three of the last five years, we\u2019ll go with these as our predictions, listed in alphabetical order:<\/p>\n
