{"id":929875,"date":"2026-10-16T05:02:16","date_gmt":"2026-10-16T05:02:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/929875\/"},"modified":"2026-10-16T05:02:16","modified_gmt":"2026-10-16T05:02:16","slug":"tyre-bundles-set-to-return-at-supercars-gold-coast-500-2026-beach-chicane","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/929875\/","title":{"rendered":"Tyre bundles set to return at Supercars Gold Coast 500 2026 beach chicane"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DON\u2019T expect to see Supercars getting quite so much hangtime at this year\u2019s edition of the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">V8 Sleuth understands the spectacular scenes last October whereby cars would frequently get entirely airborne through the beach chicane drew concerns from the FIA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s believed the return of tyre bundles is the most likely measure to be taken to slow cars through that section of track at the October 23-25 event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s something which mightn\u2019t sit all that well with drivers, as expressed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-15-James-Courtney\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">James Courtney<\/a> who raced in last year\u2019s Surfers Paradise meeting but will be on broadcast duties this time around.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/gold-coast-sunday3-47-of-127-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-268311\"  \/>Pic: Mark Walker<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI know they\u2019re saying the speed is dangerous, but as a driver it felt safer to do it that way,\u201d he said of the 2025 configuration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c(Having tyre bundles) makes it a lot more challenging for the driver to try to gauge where they are, and then it sort of closes down passing opportunities at (Turn 11).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt slows them down through there, so it does its job, but then it sort of stops the passing down the other end. Pic: Kayo Sports<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two-time Bathurst 1000 winner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-1301-Brodie-Kostecki\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brodie Kostecki<\/a> shared a similar view last month when looking ahead to Gold Coast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019ve really had no crashes or incidents through the back chicane (lately). The years prior with the tyre bundles there caused some really big crashes actually,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt was a really cool spectacle but probably not ideal having cars all four wheels up in the air.
