Wheal sent out an emotional message following his decision to call time on his career at a ripe age of 30.

“I’ve loved my time at Hampshire and representing Scotland as a professional cricketer, but unfortunately, recurring injuries have forced my hand, and I’ve made the decision to retire from playing cricket.

“It’s not been an easy decision, but one I am at peace with. I’ve had four stress fractures in my back and recently had surgery on my knee, and ultimately my body can’t cope with the demands of fast bowling anymore.

“It has always meant a lot to me and my family to have had the opportunity to play for Scotland, and it’s something I’ll always be incredibly proud of.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to represent Scotland at four World Cups and have had some incredible experiences along the way. I’ve made some lifelong friends and shared a dressing room with some great people, and those are the things I’ll probably miss the most.

“I’m incredibly thankful to all my teammates, coaches and support staff who I’ve worked with over the years. I’d also like to thank all the Scotland fans for their support over the years, particularly those who’ve travelled around the world to support us. It’s always meant a lot having them behind us.

“It’s been a huge part of my career and something I’ll always look back on with really fond memories. I’ll certainly be following the boys closely and supporting them from afar.”

[564
64,63,740,95832,95830,95836,95846,95842,95845,95843,1950,95844,95841,95847,95853,95852,95833,7301,95851,95835,95834,90626,95839,95840,95849,85,95848,95850,95838,95831,95837
post-930329","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-cricket","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-cricket","tag-cricket-breaking-news","tag-cricket-headlines-today","tag-cricket-live-score","tag-cricket-match-highlights-today","tag-cricket-match-live-streaming-score","tag-cricket-match-result-today","tag-cricket-match-today-live","tag-cricket-news","tag-cricket-results-today","tag-cricket-scorecard-live","tag-cricket-series-updates","tag-cricket-world-cup-live-score","tag-cricket-world-cup-news","tag-cricket-world-news","tag-icc","tag-icc-cricket-updates","tag-international-cricket-live-score","tag-international-cricket-news","tag-latest-cricket-news","tag-latest-cricket-scores","tag-live-cricket-match-update","tag-odi-cricket-live-score","tag-sports","tag-t20-cricket-live-score","tag-test-cricket-live-score","tag-today-cricket-live-score","tag-today-cricket-news-update","tag-todays-cricket-match-score
["GET
