Damn, some crappy news for Dutch ace Lorena Wiebes. One of, if not the best, sprinters in the women\u2019s peloton had a brutal crash during Friday\u2019s omnium at the track worlds in Shanghai. She walked off the track in serious pain\u2014it was a nasty crash that took out half the pack. And now, sadly, her 2026 track worlds are kaput.<\/p>\n
The 27-year-old Dutch rider confirmed the news on Instagram on Saturday, describing the abrupt end to her week as a dramatic change of fortunes.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom a highlight to a low point,\u201d Wiebes wrote<\/a>. \u201cThat\u2019s part of racing. My body hurts and my track worlds are ending earlier than expected.\u201d<\/p>\n Wiebes\u2019 incredible 2026<\/p>\n Cycling is full of highs and lows\u2014as Wiebes has experienced this year. She just recently swept every damn stage at the Tour of Chongming Island, and obvi, won the overall, the mountains and the points.<\/p>\n The Team SD Worx \u2013 Protime rider added to her already impressive 2026 season, which included races in pretty much damn everything, including the Tour of Britain, the Tour of Britain, the Tour de Pologne, and the Giro d\u2019Italia.<\/p>\n Oh wait, speaking of highs and lows, she ended up being kicked out of the Italian Grand Tour in the pink jersey,<\/a> no less, after winning the first stage, for having a bike that was 20 grams too light. But since that controversy, she\u2019s definitely bounced back and has been flying\u2014until the crash which ended her track worlds.<\/p>\n Wiebes crashed during the scratch race, the opening event of the four-discipline omnium.
