He gassed out after a few minutes on the field, quit his representative rugby league career and on November 6 in Sydney, Nelson Asofa-Solomona will pack it in inside the boxing ring.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s what the returning Paul Gallen has promised at least, with the heavyweight crossover king threatening to end Asofa-Solomona\u2019s boxing career after just four fights. <\/p>\n
The former Sharks and New South Wales Origin captain will return to the ring after a 16-month retirement when he takes on Asofa-Solomona at the TikTok Entertainment Centre.<\/p>\n
Gallen had no intention of making a comeback, but is furious after giving \u201cBig Nasty\u201d tips on how to transition from rugby league to boxing, only to be immediately called out for a fight by the ex-Storm prop.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor me to have a private conversation with you, personally, and tell you the way I felt, and for you then go and use that against me, I think that\u2019s a shit go,\u201d Gallen told Asofa-Solomona this week.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd anyone who thinks it\u2019s fair enough is a f***wit to be honest.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gallen is giving up 15 years in age and massive height, reach and weight advantages to Asofa-Solomona, but only gives the former Kiwis Test forward a puncher\u2019s chance.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think he\u2019s as tough as people think he is,\u201d Gallen said. \u201cI played rugby league against him, and he was a good footy player for 10 or 15 minutes.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut when I\u2019m constantly on him, constantly pressuring him, how will he handle that?<\/p>\n
\u201cHe hasn\u2019t faced anyone like that. It\u2019s a fact. Age or not, it doesn\u2019t matter. I\u2019ll be in his face.\u201d<\/p>\n
Now 45, Gallen has wins over former heavyweight world champion Lucas Browne and UFC star Mark Hunt, and says Asofa-Solomona will give up on November 6.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe quit rugby league because the game became too fast for him,\u201d he said. \u201cRather than try and lose weight and be better, you quit. You quit.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd that\u2019s exactly what\u2019s going to happen in this fight.<\/p>\n
\u201cOnce you quit once, it\u2019s in you forever.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can\u2019t live with it.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know that when you\u2019re pushed and when you have to dig deep, you haven\u2019t got it in you.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can\u2019t quit one thing and not quit another. It\u2019s in you.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gallen promises to not only make Asofa-Solomona quit in the ring, he says he\u2019ll end his boxing career completely.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m 45 years old and I\u2019m going to beat a 30-year-old weapon,\u201d he said. \u201cA 45-year-old man is going to beat you and you\u2019re going nowhere.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re going nowhere in the sport anyway.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy question is, what do you do when you lose? Are you going to walk away?<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you lose, you\u2019re gone.\u201d<\/p>\n
Asofa-Solomona made his professional debut in January, tallying wins over Jeremy Latimore, Jarrod Wallace and George Burgess, but admits a loss will all but end his fighting career.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have to win every fight,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s in my contract that if I lose, that\u2019s it.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut in what world does that happen?<\/p>\n
\u201cMaybe on Mars or Uranus, but not on Earth.\u201d<\/p>\n
Asofa-Solomona calls his decision to step away from the NRL a \u201cmature decision\u201d to try something else.<\/p>\n
Gallen will be his toughest test to date after beating an exhausted Burgess in June, but is adamant on knocking Gal out.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m in a game I feel I\u2019m built for now,\u201d he said. \u201cHe\u2019s got his own opinion about me and I can\u2019t change that.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll I can do is turn up on November 6 and do a number on him.<\/p>\n
