{"id":932073,"date":"2026-10-18T01:30:14","date_gmt":"2026-10-18T01:30:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/932073\/"},"modified":"2026-10-18T01:30:14","modified_gmt":"2026-10-18T01:30:14","slug":"james-courtneys-insight-into-team-18-bathurst-1000-shock-fuel-defeat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/932073\/","title":{"rendered":"James Courtney&#8217;s insight into Team 18 Bathurst 1000 shock fuel defeat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-15-James-Courtney\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">JAMES Courtney<\/a> has provided insight into how things played out from within the Team 18 garage last Sunday at the Bathurst 1000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of course it has been well-documented that the #18 DeWalt Camaro of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-1264-Anton-De Pasquale\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anton De Pasquale<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-12-Lee-Holdsworth\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lee Holdsworth<\/a> started the last lap in the box seat to win the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-176-Peter-Brock\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Peter Brock<\/a> Trophy, only to run out of fuel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Roughly 5km from by far the biggest triumph in the squad\u2019s history, elation turned to despair in the ultimate case of heartbreak.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt was horrific,\u201d Courtney, who co-drove the sister Snowy River Chevrolet, told V8 Sleuth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTo be sitting there, beside Lee, and the emotions of those last couple of stints and how well they were doing. I even leant across to Lee and said \u2018you\u2019re going to be two-time here\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEspecially when he took off after the Safety Car, and on that second-last run down Conrod \u2013 or his last \u2013 that\u2019s when Adrian (Burgess) said to Charlie (Schwerkolt) that they\u2019re going to have to pit or keep going.<\/p>\n<p>Unpacking an Epic Bathurst 1000 | The Undercut<\/p>\n<p>THE Bathurst 1000 once again turned out an all-time classic race, with all of the winners and losers put under the microscope in this episode of The Undercut!<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFor me, I was in shock. I had no idea that was happening and neither did Lee.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe were working out how we were going to spend Sunday night. It was a huge shock to both of us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Team 18 has vowed to bounce back and has an immediate chance to do so at next week\u2019s finals series opener on the Gold Coast, where De Pasquale enters as the seventh seed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Courtney knows Schwerkolt and Burgess particularly well, the trio having combined for the 2010 championship.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt means so much to them and you could see the emotion, both of them were crying. I think nearly all of the garage was.
