Any band could benefit from having someone like Christine McVie<\/a> to keep everyone in check. <\/p>\n In a band that was heightened by all of the drama that was being stirred up time and time again in the press and amongst each other, Christine was the one who seemed to have her head screwed on, even when she knew that the world was almost falling apart around her. Only a few people can walk through rock and roll with that sort of bravery, but when you have that many moments in the spotlight, there comes a minute when you need a break.<\/p>\n And it\u2019s not like Christine didn\u2019t pay her dues throughout her time with The Mac. So many people would have called it quits years before she even made it to the Rumours sessions, but a lot of that came back to her pure love of music. She knew that nothing could get in the way of her jamming with her favourite band, and even when she was going through her divorce with John McVie, there was no reason for her to slow down her songwriting streak.<\/p>\n Because if I\u2019m being 100% transparent here, some of the best songs on Rumours actually come from Christine most of the time. Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham definitely have their place in rock history for a damn good reason, but Christine was the one who offered a much more gentle version of pop music. And anyone who isn\u2019t sitting there\u00a0crying at the end of \u2018Songbird\u2019<\/a>\u00a0has practically got to be either made of stone or not paying enough attention.<\/p>\n Christine had the strength of a musical powerhouse, so how the hell was she the one who ended up leaving for an extended period of time? She was as much of a foundation in the group as John and Mick Fleetwood by the time they reached the 1990s, but her fear of flying was the one thing that seemed to make her pull the plug. She couldn\u2019t handle another tour, and there was no reason to believe that she needed the band anymore.<\/p>\n Despite moving on with her life, though, distance makes another heart grow fonder, and it was only a matter of time before Christine started to see the band playing and miss it dearly. Aside from all the pettiness, she just remembered the camaraderie of working with the band again, and when the band settled down for a casual gig in Dublin, she knew she needed to take the opportunity while she still had it.<\/p>\n Even though the entire Fleetwood Mac operation had been going on for ages, from the minute the shuffle rhythm of \u2018Don\u2019t Stop\u2019 started, it felt like she had finally made it back home, saying<\/a>, \u201cI went over to Dublin, and it was decided that I would go on stage and do \u2018Don\u2019t Stop\u2019 with them at the O2. We rehearsed it in Dublin, and everyone was looking over at each other smiling, thinking this was fantastic.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cFor me, I was looking over at my family again, and it was effortless. I don\u2019t know. It felt comfortable.
