However, Moore will retain the primary engineer role \u2013 including being on the radio to Kostecki during sessions \u2013 to ensure the weekend goes smoothly.<\/p>\n
\u201c[Commins is] doing really well,\u201d DJR co-owner Ryan Story said on the team\u2019s PG and the Doc podcast.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re really hoping he can be with us on the Gold Coast but we don\u2019t want to put any pressure on him.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo have him as part of the brains trust for the Gold Coast weekend adds to our group.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re going to have continuity from how we ran at Bathurst in that Tom will still be running the car and on the radio to Brodie.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s to maximise the opportunity for George to come back, not have the pressure, if he has fatigue or isn\u2019t doing that flash and needs to go back to the hotel for any reason at all, it\u2019s not going to disrupt what we\u2019re doing.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd it allows him to ease back in, but that\u2019s a decision we\u2019ve made in the lead-up to the race weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n
Story also paid tribute to the preparation work Commins had undertaken ahead of Bathurst that helped set up the team\u2019s weekend.<\/p>\n
\u201cGeorge is such an important part of this place,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s a daredevil bloody sportsman, it\u2019s like he\u2019s trying to audition for the X-Games or something and had a prang on his mountain bike.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo not have George there was tough and we felt for him too, the poor bugger was in a fair bit of strife.\u201d<\/p>\n
