An Australian fan has been booted from Jordan Thompson’s US Open first-round victory after repeatedly disrupting Frenchman Corentin Moutet.<\/p>\n
In a see-sawing match between two combustible opponents, Thompson won out 6-2, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 in two hours and 55 minutes despite a number of distractions.<\/p>\n
The match was being played on Court 7 at Flushing Meadows, meaning spectators are quite close and effectively on court level with the players.<\/p>\n
Moutet took issue with someone in the crowd speaking to him during the final game of the first set and umpire James Keothavong stepped in.<\/p>\n

“Buddy, please don’t talk to the players please,” he said.<\/p>\n
“If you want to support, that’s fine, but not directly at the player.”<\/p>\n
Moutet called a medical timeout after losing the opening set 6-2 to 58th-ranked Thompson and appeared to be struggling physically at times.<\/p>\n
After holding serve for a 3-2 lead in the second frame, Moutet directed an angry celebration back at that corner of the crowd.<\/p>\n
His coaches, sitting in the same section, tried to calm down their charge as he pointed and shouted past them at the fan.<\/p>\n
Eventually, Moutet walked away and spoke to Keothavong, pointing back at the crowd.<\/p>\n

The umpire walked to the section and called out the fan, wearing a gold Australian Socceroos or Matildas jersey from 2018.<\/p>\n
Keothavong directed the fan to leave, much to the delight of surrounding fans, who applauded, cheered and chanted “Nah nah nah nah, hey hey hey, goodbye”.<\/p>\n
The Australian fan remonstrated, shouting back at the fans while collecting his belongings and making his way out of the arena.<\/p>\n
Thompson maintained his focus to run to a 6-4 win in the second set, before things unravelled in the third as Moutet found a second wind.<\/p>\n
Thompson received a code violation for launching a ball into the stands after being broken for 4-0, and the French world number 40 jumped out to a 5-0 lead before taking the set 6-1.<\/p>\n
