href=\"https:\/\/www.stirling.wa.gov.au\/attractions-and-recreation\/arts-and-events\/events-calendar\/paw-some-day-out\">Paw-some Day out<\/a> due to the <a class=\"css-445i33-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.perthnow.com.au\/wa\/life-threatening-dog-parvovirus-cases-confirmed-at-karrinyup-small-animal-hospital--c-23046934\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">detection of canine parvovirus in the community<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The event, which was scheduled from 8am to noon this Sunday at Grindleford Reserve in Balcatta, has been described by the city as one of its most anticipated community events of the year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cIt attracts hundreds of pet lovers and their four-legged friends for a day of fun and responsible pet ownership,\u201d the city said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThis year\u2019s event was set to feature free vet checks from Karrinyup Small Animal Hospital and free one-year dog registrations for eligible owners, along with an expanded focus on accessibility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The city described the detection as a \u201cdisappointing development\u201d, especially for the stallholders and service providers involved in the event and the wider community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cHowever, the highly contagious and potentially deadly nature of parvo means postponement is the only responsible course of action,\u201d the city said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThe city is yet to confirm a new date for Paw-some Day Out but will likely seek to reschedule it for early 2027.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\"><a class=\"css-445i33-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ksah.com.au\/\">Karrinyup Small Animal Hospital<\/a> issued a warning on Facebook on Tuesday about the \u201chighly contagious\u201d virus and introduced precautions to protect animals visiting the clinic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Vets will assess dogs and conduct testing outside the hospital while wearing full personal protective equipment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cPlease do not enter the clinic or get out of your car until your dog has been tested for parvovirus and returned a negative result,\u201d the post said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cOur vets will come out to your car wearing full PPE to assess your dog and carry out testing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThis precaution helps protect other patients and prevent the potential spread of this serious virus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The virus, which can be potentially life-threatening, attacks a dog\u2019s gastrointestinal tract and immune system, causing severe vomiting, diarrhoea
