A few details have already been confirmed, but the rest is mostly speculation. Several French news sources think they already know. And the most striking detail is the final stage. After the spectacle of the last two years, Montmartre is not expected to return, although not all sources are in agreement. Grand Départ in Great Britain What we do know for sure is that the Tour de France will spend its first three days in Great Britain. The Grand Départ will take place in Edinburgh on July 2, and the first stage will take the race across the border into England.

The finish is in Carlisle, where a sprinter will likely take the yellow jersey. A slightly hillier stage will finish in Liverpool the next day, after which we’ll head to Wales for some serious climbing on a beautiful hilly stage.

Read more below the video!

What will happen next? It’s mostly guesswork. According to the French newspaper Ouest-France, the next stages will take place in northern France. The race will cross the Channel, followed by a stop in Normandy. From there, the route will head through Brittany to the Atlantic coast. However, reports indicate that this time there will be no stage in Mur-de-Bretagne, unlike in 2025.

Read more below the photo!

Tadej Pogacar won on the Mur-de-Bretagne in 2025.

Loire Valley time trial, tailored for specialists

The first interesting stage to come is Stage 7. It’s scheduled to feature a time trial in the Loire Valley, further west—and thus closer to central France—toward Tours. It’s not yet clear how long that time trial will be, but don’t expect a super-short challenge. This stage will definitely offer opportunities to make up some time. Given the flat terrain, the specialists should be in their element.

There’s still a long journey ahead before the rest day. We’ll make our way slowly but surely toward the foothills of the Alps, with a stage to Le Creusot on the schedule. It will be a stage for the attackers: Matej Mohoric won the stage here in 2021, ahead of Mathieu van der Poel, who was wearing the yellow jersey at the time. According to sources, the Col du Grand Colombier is on the schedule for the following day—the first true mountain stage. Michal Kwiatkowski won here in 2023, and Tadej Pogacar in 2020.

Read more below the photo!

Mohoric won in Le Creusot in 2021.

A finale in the Pyrenees, and what about Montmartre?According to Le Dauphiné, after the rest day, the route could pass through Sallanches—the site of the World Championships—offering another opportunity for climbers or breakaway riders. And the climbing isn’t over yet: the peloton is set to remain in the Alps for Stage 11 on the national holiday, after which the race heads south for a stage to Valence. After a few sprint opportunities and a transition stage to Mende, it’s time for the final rest day.Rumours fly about Montmartre

What will the final week look like? We’ll start and finish Stage 16 in Toulouse, according to reports. That would likely be a second time trial—right up Remco Evenepoel’s alley, of course… After a flat stage to Pau, we can look forward to a finale in the Pyrenees, with the queen stage on stage eighteen, finishing at the Col du Portet. The Col d’Aubisque, the Col d’Aspin, and the Hourquette d’Anzican are also expected to feature in the final three mountain stages. And, of course, the Col du Tourmalet.

Read more below the photo!

The most striking rumour seems to concern the final day. Two editions featuring the Montmartre climb left fans with a great impression. But the finish was neutralized both times. Now, according to La Dépêche, the ASO is reportedly returning to the original format, which means simply a few laps on the Champs-Élysées, but without the beautiful climb.Incidentally, Le Parisien has denied these rumours. The newspaper states that Montmartre will indeed remain.

The full route of the 2027 Tour de France will be announced live on October 22. IDL Pro Cycling will bring you all the updates as they are revealed.

The route for the 2027 Tour de France has not yet been officially announced.
