Burgundy-coloured bricks<\/a> incorporating reclaimed manufacturing waste<\/a> wrap Princeton University\u2019s Frist Health Centre in Princeton, New Jersey<\/a>, as shown in this video carousel produced by Dezeen.<\/p>\n

Called Ponderosa Western<\/a>, the bricks are part of North American manufacturer Glen-Gery<\/a>\u2018s Western Series and incorporate materials recovered from its own manufacturing process.<\/p>\n

The extruded bricks, which were laid in a horizontal running bond pattern<\/a>, feature sharp, precise edges and a surface texture that combines velour, grooved and sanded finishes.<\/p>\n

The facade was designed to complement the century-old Gothic brickwork of the university\u2019s historic Eno Hall<\/a>, which was constructed in 1924.<\/p>\n

The new building features metal<\/a> sunshades to help reduce solar<\/a> heat gain, alongside mineral wool<\/a> insulation behind the brickwork to support the centre\u2019s energy performance.<\/p>\n

Courtyards, green roofs<\/a> and diverse plant life surround the building, creating a landscape designed to provide a calming environment for students<\/a> and faculty.<\/p>\n

Exposed mass timber<\/a> and visual connections to the outdoors continue throughout the interior of the building.<\/p>\n

This process means that the artists themselves were unsure of what the pieces would look like until they were completely finished.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe thickness of the shingle coat varies depending on the complexity of the shingled area,\u201d Wegwerth and Dehn said. \u201cAs a result, the final silhouettes and tonal values only emerge gradually during the process.\u201d<\/p>\n
