Co-driving with Anton De Pasquale<\/a>, the 43-year-old appeared set for his second Great Race crown before the Team 18 Camaro ran out of fuel on the final lap.<\/p>\n

Holdsworth opened up about the crushing blow on the latest Rusty\u2019s Garage podcast.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not over it yet but I don\u2019t know if I\u2019ll ever get over it,\u201d he told host Greg Rust. \u201cIt keeps hitting me every day that we lost that race.\u201d<\/p>\n

The defeat will not deter the veteran, who these days works as a commercial real estate agent, from returning for another start next year.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll be back next year. I\u2019ll definitely be on the grid at Bathurst and Tailem Bend, and I\u2019m looking forward to that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously I want to go back there and win that race again, and I don\u2019t want to say that I want to get revenge or redemption or whatever.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just want to go back and have the same opportunity with a speedy car again that we had this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had one of the best weeks, so to fall on our face at the end of it was just so hard to take because you\u2019ve got to capitalise in those situations.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it was my 23rd Bathurst, so I\u2019ve done a fair few of them and really only had a true opportunity to win the race twice.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce we did it and once we didn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Holdsworth stopped short of confirming he\u2019ll be back with Team 18, it\u2019s understood the squad will take up an option on his services.<\/p>\n

Holdsworth rejoined Team 18 last year following his exit from Walkinshaw TWG Racing, finishing second in the 2025 Bathurst 1000 alongside David Reynolds<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He was moved into De Pasquale\u2019s car this year amid the arrival of James Courtney<\/a> and his Snowy River Caravans backing.<\/p>\n

Holdsworth\u2019s previous Great Race victory came alongside Chaz Mostert<\/a> at the Walkinshaw team in 2021.<\/p>\n

What really went wrong for Team 18 at Bathurst<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

De Pasquale said earlier this week that Team 18 is still reeling from its Bathurst blunder<\/a>, whereby it under-filled the car in its final pit stop and did not realise until it was too late.<\/p>\n

Holdsworth revealed he had been completely oblivious to the situation until just moments before De Pasquale pulled to the side on Mountain Straight.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was never any worry for me about the fuel. I didn\u2019t have any idea what was going on with the fuel because I wasn\u2019t tuned in to the comms,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I think JC (James Courtney) leaned across to me and he said, \u2018mate, you\u2019re going to be a two-time winner here\u2019. This was with about two laps to go, after the Safety Car.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it was about 30 seconds after that when I heard Adrian Burgess talking to the Chevrolet guys behind us.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd someone said, \u2018we\u2019re not going to make it. We\u2019re going to have to pit\u2019. And at that point, my heart absolutely sank to my feet.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just couldn\u2019t believe it. It just caught me by surprise.\u201d<\/p>\n
