Exclusive: Cody Simpson has announced a surprising new career move and revealed one detail that will have his female fans thrilled.

The 29-year-old singer, swimmer and actor has just launched his own book club, following in the footsteps of stars like Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey, and Dua Lipa.

Simpson announced the launch on Instagram with a moody video directed by Antony Muse, who also directed When It Comes to Loving You and Fluent music videos.

“Okay I’m doing it. I’m starting my own book club with @baileysofficial. Each month I’ll share a book I’m reading, paired with a Baileys,” Simpson captioned the clip.

“First up is Jack Kerouac’s On the Road, I’m running this one back because it’s the book that first sparked my sense of adventure & love of reading.”

He encouraged followers to get lost in the book and “thank [him] later”, and even included his favourite quote: “Nothing behind me, everything ahead of me, as is ever so on the road.”

Nine.com.au can also exclusively reveal that Simpson’s second book club pick will be A Court of Splintered Harmony, the latest instalment in Sarah J. Mass’ best-selling A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) romantasy series with a huge female fanbase.

It’s a far cry from Kerouac’s 1957 novel, which was inspired by the author’s travels across the US, but Simpson has a vested interest in Maas’ latest fae romance.

He’ll be making a special appearance at Dymocks on Sydney’s George Street on Monday for A Court of Splintered Harmony’s highly anticipated midnight release.

Hundreds of fans are expected to line up outside the bookstore in the hopes of getting their hands on the novel as soon as the clock strikes midnight after waiting five years for it.

A Court of Splintered Harmony is expected to break plenty of reading records when it hits shelves next week. Facebook/The World of Sarah J. Maas

Maas published A Court of Thorns and Roses, the first book in the series, in 2015 and followed it up with sequels and spin-offs in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2021.

The prolific author then took a break to focus on her other projects, only to surprise millions of fans earlier this year when she announced two new ACOTAR books were on the way.

A Court of Splintered Harmony will hit shelves on October 27, and A Court of Forgotten Melody is slated for release on January 12 next year.

Simpson isn’t the first high-profile Aussie bloke to jump on the ACOTAR bandwagon; former NRL player Luke Bateman built a whole career in the online book space after posting about the books in 2025.

Nor is this Simpson’s first foray into the literary world.

Though he’s better known for swimming and singing, Simpson also released a book of poetry titled Prince Neptune back in 2020.

“Becoming a published writer is the ideal beginning to a new decade and the highest of honours,” Simpson wrote at the time.

He also predicted Prince Neptune would be the “first of many books in my lifetime”, which he proved true in 2024 when he released a children’s picture book titled The Sea In Me.

Perhaps this new book club could be Simpson’s avenue back into publishing now he’s retired from professional swimming.

Exclusive: Cody Simpson has announced a surprising new career move and revealed one detail that will have his…

[28
64,63,134,136
post-937570","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-music","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-entertainment","tag-music
["GET
