East Lansing, Mich. \u2013 Michigan State’s women’s golf team shot a 16-over par 304 in the first round of the Landfall Tradition, being played at the Country Club of Landfall’s Pete Dye Course (par 72, 6,223 yards) in Wilmington, N.C.<\/p>\n
The Spartans are in 16th place among 18 teams in the field, which includes 14 teams ranked among the top-50 in the country in the latest NCAA rankings.<\/p>\n
Duke leads the field at 2-under par 286, with Alabama two shots back at even-par 288. Wake Forest is in third place at 2-over par 290, Kentucky is fourth at 3-over par 291 and SMU rounds out the top-five teams at 5-over par 293.<\/p>\n
The Spartans are one 11 teams within 11 shots of the top-five teams.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Lucia Valderrama<\/a> and senior Ana Sofia Murcia<\/a> were the top finishers for the Spartans, posting respective scores of 3-over par 75 to tie for 40th place.<\/p>\n Sophomore Almendra Campoverde<\/a>, junior Grace Vetter<\/a> and senior Keeley Marx<\/a> are each tied for 62nd place with scores of 5-over par 77.<\/p>\n The Spartans tee off in the second round at 10:16 a.m., playing from the 10th hole alongside Kent State and Clemson.
