Did she deliver during her Sydney show?

Review: On Saturday night, tens of thousands Aussie millennials dusted off their butterfly clips and stayed out past 10pm for Hilary Duff’s first Sydney show in 18 years.

We were promised a night that would bring us back to our childhood. But for a sold-out concert named after Duff’s 2026 album, Luck… or Something, did she oversell the nostalgia “dream”?

Duff opened with her hit single Wake Up and all of a sudden, it was 2005.

Straight into So Yesterday (the track spent a mammoth 20 weeks on the ARIA Singles Chart in 2003), Duff, with the crowd, belted the teen heartbreak anthem released when she was just 15 years old.

“You guys are so electric tonight!” she cheered and paused, taking in 20,000 starry-eyed fans. “I’ve missed you.”

Jumping from teen bop to the first song from her very mature 2026 album, Duff, 39, made one thing clear. She had grown up and so had we.

You could see it in the montage of her three beautiful kids played out on the big screen, in the shift between her 2000s hits and songs released after 20 years.

You could see it in the crowd, like me, happily singing along to tracks about marriage breakdowns and complicated family relationships.

You could feel it when Duff kicked off her shoes, put on a baggy Furby tee and relaxed with the crowd – while sipping on a glass of Aussie “Savvy B”.

Jumping up and down, she made a sold-out arena full of strangers feel like for one night, we were catching up with friends we hadn’t seen in years.

Just like she had promised, feelings of childhood nostalgia came flooding back.

From 2001 to 2026. Nine/@justin.ma.photography

Old Disney clips played, balloons fell from the sky and lyrics stored in the back of our memories resurfaced after two decades.

It was more than nostalgia, though.

It was a feeling that withstood generations, shared with young girls holding their millennial mums tight as Duff performed songs released well and truly before they were born.

Mums brought their daughters along for one magical night. Nine/Rosie Scott

“I’ve been here [in Australia] four times,” Duff smiled as she spoke into the microphone. “And I really feel like I belong here.”

“I’m here with my family for the first time… and in all serious talk, you guys made my album go number one here.”

Hilary Duff takes in the Aussie crowd. @justin.ma.photography

It’s true, we did. Duff’s sixth studio album, Luck… or Something, debuted at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart and Vinyl Chart after its release in February 2026.

“I took a big break, obviously, and I never really knew that this would all still be here for me,” Duff went on.

“And I want to say thank you, for sticking it out with me for so many freakin’ decades.”

The night ended with a celebration of past and present; performing Mature, her biggest hit from her 2026 album and What Dreams Are Made Of, the one song we waited 23 years to hear.

""

Butterfly clips and sequins were out in full display. Nine/Rosie Scott

""

Do I wish the whole night was 2000s hits? Sure. But the night truly was what dreams are made of. Nine/Rosie Scott

As Duff took in the applauding crowd, she paused and held back tears.

Moments earlier, she had summed up exactly what we were feeling.

“To be up here with you at this stage in my life and your life because we’re grown-ups now… And to revisit it all just for a few minutes with you. It’s been so magical.”

Review: On Saturday night, tens of thousands Aussie millennials dusted off their butterfly clips and stayed out past…

[32
64,63,447,134
post-940139","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-celebrities","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-celebrities","tag-entertainment
["GET
