Max Verstappen holds a potentially decisive tyre advantage for the United States Grand Prix, providing the Red Bull driver with greater strategic flexibility as Kimi Antonelli bids to secure his maiden F1 title.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Starting second behind pole-sitter Antonelli, Verstappen has two fresh sets of soft tyres available, offering an advantage off the line and during the opening stint.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Crucially, the Dutchman’s allocation also allows him to switch to a two-stop strategy should degradation prove higher than anticipated.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Verstappen has one fresh set each of the hard and medium compounds, alongside two used sets of softs. Third-placed Isack Hadjar has an identical allocation.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Antonelli, meanwhile, has one fresh hard, one fresh and one used medium, and three used soft sets.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Pirelli expects a one-stop race, although the performance advantage of the soft compound could encourage Verstappen to adopt an aggressive approach.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
“The C4 [soft tyre] confirmed a performance advantage over the C3 [medium tyre] in terms of both grip and lap time, a factor that ensures clear differentiation between the available options,” Dario Marrafuschi, Pirelli head of motorsport, said.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
“In race pace running, however, the two softer compounds proved to be very closely matched, increasing the number of strategic scenarios available to the teams.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
“The simulations indicate that a one-stop strategy remains the most effective solution in terms of overall race time.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
“The soft-medium combination could be chosen by more than one team in order to maximise the grip advantage offered by the red-banded tyre.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
“The hard nevertheless remains a valid option for the second stint, regardless of whether the race is started on the soft or the medium.”\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n

An early safety car could significantly alter the strategic picture at the Circuit of the Americas, potentially encouraging teams to switch to the C2 hard compound.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Every driver has a fresh set of hards available, providing an alternative should an early neutralisation make a lengthy final stint viable.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Antonelli must win the race to stand any chance of clinching the championship, with George Russell needing to finish ninth or lower and Lewis Hamilton fifth or lower.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Russell starts sixth, one place behind Hamilton, while victory for Antonelli would eliminate Verstappen from title contention regardless of his finishing position.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
However, Verstappen’s additional fresh soft compound could prove particularly valuable if higher tyre wear forces teams away from the preferred one-stop strategy.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
“An early neutralisation could in fact encourage teams to complete the remainder of the grand prix on the C2 [hard tyre],” Marrafuschi added, before highlighting Verstappen’s key advantage.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
“Should degradation prove higher than expected, a two-stop strategy based on a soft-medium-soft sequence could also become an attractive option.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
“The time difference compared with the one-stop strategy remains relatively small, but track position and the potential impact of traffic must also be taken into account.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
