A\u00a0rainy start greeted competitors for the opening day\u00a0of racing at the 6DAYS\u00ae FIM Enduro of Nations in Bergamo, Italy. After a hot and sunny lead into the 6DAYS\u00ae Italia, rain clouds gathered as the\u00a0six-hundred-and-sixty riders from the thirty-three nations\u00a0prepared to roll off the start ramp early on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
The change in weather resulted in a number of favourites in the\u00a0World Trophy categories making some last-minute tyre decisions\u00a0during the morning service. As riders arrived at the opening special test of six for Day One, the rain had made\u00a0conditions very slippery\u00a0indeed.<\/p>\n
Italy\u2019s Samuele Bernardini (Honda) danced the fine line of risk\u00a0and reward to perfection, winning the opening special test of the 6DAYS\u00ae Italia by seven seconds over his teammate,\u00a0Andrea Verona (GASGAS). Exiting the first special test, Italy were off to a flying start taking a twenty-one-second lead over Sweden in second, with France a further twenty-three seconds back in third.<\/p>\n
However, on the following special test,\u00a0France were up to speed and had raced their way into the overall lead. Spain were up to second, with Italy dropping back to third. At the midway point in the day, France continued to hold firm in first, extending their advantage to\u00a0fifty-five seconds over Spain, with the\u00a0United States climbing to third.<\/p>\n
As the day progressed,\u00a0France remained out front, eventually finishing Day One with a thirty-four-second lead over Italy in second.\u00a0Sweden raced their way back into contention\u00a0from sixth at the halfway point in the day to finish behind Italy in third, while Spain and the United States completed the top-five.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been a good start to the 6DAYS\u00ae for us. To lead at the end of Day One is exactly the start we were hoping for,\u201d told\u00a0France\u2019s Hugo Blanjoue (Honda).<\/p>\n
\u201cThe conditions were difficult. The first test had a lot of water and roots to deal with \u2013 line choice was critical there and on most tests.
