The amateur boxer faced Danny Lafferty in an exhibition bout during the popular event and believes the experience has given him a valuable insight into what the professional game could hold.

Having spent around a decade boxing in the amateur ranks, Suttle admitted the atmosphere surrounding the event was unlike anything he had experienced before.

“It was an unreal experience, to be fair,” he said.

“Obviously, I’ve been boxing at amateur level now for like 10 or so years. But I’ve never been on a stage like that, on a pro card. Big crowd, unreal atmosphere.

“It was just great to get out there and also get my name out there a wee bit too.”

The occasion appears to have fuelled the next major goal in Suttle’s career, with the boxer revealing he hopes the exhibition could be an important stepping stone towards a professional debut.

“It’s something that I think every young fighter always wants someday, to turn pro whenever they start,” he said.

“It’s a goal of mine that I’ve had for a while now. My coach Sean (Crowley) has kind of been leaning more towards me turning pro at some point, so that’s hopefully my foot in the door.

“Then eventually, within the next few months maybe, fingers crossed, we’ll see how things go. A few more amateur fights before the end of the year, but I’m hoping maybe in a year I could be looking at turning pro.”

Although exhibition contests are not officially scored, Suttle was pleased with his display and felt he made the most of the opportunity.

“I was happy with how I done as well,” he said.

“It was a big stage to put a good performance on, so I just really went out there and gave it everything.”

Reflecting on the contest against Lafferty, he added: “It’s not a scored fight, but it’s a good way for me to get experience in the ring. It was a different kind of atmosphere, no vest, no headgear. It’s a bit more like a pro fight.

“Obviously, it’s still not scored, but I came out of it knowing that I got the better of it and I was happy with how I done. I think everyone watching kind of thought the same.”

A sizeable local support was also in attendance, something Suttle said provided an extra lift as he made his ring walk.

“It was class,” he said.

“Having that support meant a lot. I could hear them as soon as I was coming into the ring. It was a really good buzz.

“It almost pushes you on that wee bit more when you know you’ve got a good backing behind you. It was a good show to be part of and an impressive event right through it.”

Suttle has also drawn inspiration from clubmate Rhys Owens, who has quickly established himself in the professional ranks.

“With Rhys being in my club and my team-mate, seeing how far he’s come is really motivational,” he said.

“For myself, it’s about pushing to try and someday be there myself, or close to it.

“Just even training with him, I learn a lot. We’re always training together, he’s pushing me on and I’m learning a lot from him which I can take into account for my fights.”

The boxer acknowledges there are significant differences between amateur and professional boxing, particularly in terms of tactics and conditioning.

“Amateur boxing is very fast-paced and all about point scoring,” he explained.

“With pro boxing, it’s a bit more about doing damage and breaking your opponent down a wee bit slower. It’s almost like two different sports in a way.

“But it’s good to get a feel for that pro scene and you could tell fitness was a big part of it.”

He added: “Fitness is a massive part of it, but I’ve been training hard, putting the work in, and I think that showed.”

The amateur boxer faced Danny Lafferty in an exhibition bout during the popular event and believes the experience…

[571
64,63,802,85
post-943588","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-boxing","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-boxing","tag-sports
["GET
