{"id":943854,"date":"2026-10-28T10:52:20","date_gmt":"2026-10-28T10:52:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/943854\/"},"modified":"2026-10-28T10:52:20","modified_gmt":"2026-10-28T10:52:20","slug":"supercars-news-disqualification-from-finals-spot-labelled-an-own-goal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/943854\/","title":{"rendered":"Supercars news: Disqualification from finals spot labelled an &#8216;own goal&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" width=\"2890\" height=\"1924\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/trim=420;352;312;742,w=2890,fit=scale-down,quality=85.jpeg\" class=\"sc-hero-img\" alt=\"Blanchard left to lament BRT\u2019s major \u2018own goal\u2019\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>BRT had flown out of the blocks at the start of the year and driver <a href=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.com\/drivers\/james-golding\/\" class=\"scdh-autolink\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">James Golding<\/a> was inside the top 10 in points for much of the season.<\/p>\n<p>Golding was, though, dumped from the 10 thanks to disqualification from a seventh place finish at The Bend 500.<\/p>\n<p>There the team suffered a <a href=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.com\/supercars-news-2026-the-bend-500-blanchard-racing-team-disqualification-decision-details-comments-reaction\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">double DSQ for failing to adhere to minimum driver time rules<\/a>, leaving its co-drivers in too long ahead of a time-certain finish.<\/p>\n<p>With Golding unable to make up the points deficit at Bathurst, BRT entered the Gold Coast 500 as the only Ford team without a driver in the Finals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s disappointing to be out of the finals, even if it makes for an easier run through to the end of the year,\u201d said Blanchard after the GC500.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe kicked an own goal at Tailem Bend and we know without that we would have made the cut.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>BRT emerged from Surfers Paradise with a familiar story, having failed to capitalise on its speed.<\/p>\n<p>The highlight was a third place grid slot for <a href=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.com\/drivers\/aaron-cameron\/\" class=\"scdh-autolink\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Aaron Cameron<\/a> on Sunday, which turned into a 12th place finish, four behind Golding.<\/p>\n<p>Both drivers suffered spectacular spins through the beach chicane in the wet Saturday race, despite which Golding finished 13th.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1050937\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Supercars-GoldCoast-Sunday-094.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1280\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>From left: Aaron Cameron, driver coach Steven Richards and Tim Blanchard.
