Recent statistics have revealed that nearly half of Aussies have admitted to “ghosting” and “double dipping” over the past year, but singles from certain states are more likely to do so.

KFC has released new research findings in the lead up to “Text Your Ex Day” on October 30 and in anticipation of their new “Dip and Crunch” range, shining a spotlight on some of the popular dating trends amongst Aussies.

According to the data, more than a third of young Aussies (35.2 per cent) admitted to repeatedly going back to their ex and keeping them on rotation, an act referred to as “double dipping”.

Furthermore, 41.1 per cent of young Australians caved and “text-dipped” a former partner in the last year.

When looking at which time of day Aussies are feeling most vulnerable, the hours between 10pm and 2am – dubbed the Midnight Danger Zone – saw 30.7 per cent break no contact with a former flame.

But when it comes to the morning after, more than half (57.6 per cent) admitted to regretting the late-night text.

Ghosting, a trend that sees dating hopefuls cut off communication without warning or explanation, was a common trend amongst Aussies, with 41.3 per cent confessing to dipping on someone to avoid having an honest conversation about their relationship goals.

And bringing Artificial Intelligence into the dating sphere, 15 per cent of Australian daters outsourced communications to AI tools like ChatGPT when it came to drafting texts and decoding messages from potential love interests.

The data also stretched cross-state, with New South Wales singles the most likely to turn to AI technology when it comes to navigating their love lives.

Meanwhile, Victoria is the ghosting capital of Australia, with 46 per cent admitting to randomly dipping on someone instead of having a heart-to-heart.

Victorians are also most likely to reach out to their ex during the Midnight Danger Zone, with 37 per cent admitting to breaking no contact between 10pm and 2am.

"'Predatory':

Then there is Western Australia singles, who lead the charge when it comes to texting an ex – at any time of the day – with 35 per cent of residents admitting to reaching out over the past 12 months.

In response to the dating trend statistics, KFC has decided to intervene, encouraging Aussies to double dip their chicken, not their exes, with their new “Dip and Crunch” range.

The range allows Aussies to dip, roll and coat KFC’s chicken tenders in an array of sauces and crunches – including a Biscoff cookie crumb.
