\u201cI think it might have been more the one I wished I was,\u201d he divulged. Stewart also confirmed it had been difficult to be the \u201ckind of father he wanted to be.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cGiven that I\u2019m separated from my children now, we don\u2019t have relationships, they have become very important,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
\u201cI never thought that this would happen, but both my children are in their 50s, they\u2019re not children anymore, they\u2019re adults. And my relationship with them is practically non-existent.\u201d<\/p>\n
It\u2019s a topic he\u2019s broached in the past \u2014 in a 2009 interview with the Independent, Stewart said he \u201ccould\u2019ve done better as a parent, when [his] kids were little.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI was just obsessed with my work and everything else took second place,\u201d he continued, adding, \u201cI\u2019m trying to correct that now whenever possible with my grandchildren.\u201d<\/p>\n
At the time, the actor said, \u201cmy own children seem to have forgiven me.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reps for Sophie and Daniel were not immediately available to Page Six for comment.<\/p>\n
Stewart and Falconer wed in 1966 and divorced in 1990. Stewart subsequently married Wendy Neuss in 2000, with the pair ending the union three years later.<\/p>\n
The X Men star wed Sunny Ozell in 2013, in whose \u201cloving care\u201d he was held at the time of his death, an announcement read.<\/p>\n
Daniel posted a picture of himself giving his dad a piggyback on stage to social media in the hours after his death was announced. He did not add a caption.<\/p>\n
Stewart died at his Los Angeles home following a brief battle with Alzheimer\u2019s disease and Lewy Body Dementia, a social media statement on Thursday read.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has been held in the warm embrace of family and friends, surrounded by live music, prayer, tears, laughter, and the kind of profound emotion that only he could inspire after a lifetime of devotion to us all,\u201d it read.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will forever cherish the peaceful ease and reflection on his face, an enduring reminder of his invincible grace.\u201d<\/p>\n
Months prior to his death, Stewart made a painful confession about his career, as well, telling TV Insider in July that, \u201cthere are fewer and fewer available roles as we get older.\u201d<\/p>\n
Still, he continued \u201cto receive interesting offers\u201d and admitted that he loved \u201cbeing challenged by new work.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t imagine ever officially \u2018retiring,\u2019\u201d he told the outlet. \u201cI\u2019ll always and forever be an actor.\u201d<\/p>\n
