Bruce Bochy could find a home in Cooperstown as soon as next summer. Sandy Alderson, too.

The two former Padres highlight the eight-person, non-player ballot that the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee for the Hall of Fame will consider for induction as part of the class of 2027.

The committee will meet Dec. 6 in San Diego, a fitting locale for a discussion about both Bochy and Alderson.

Bochy, 71, caught five of his nine seasons in the majors with the Padres and managed the team for 12 seasons (951-975), which included a trip to the World Series in 1998. Bochy was a catcher on the Padres’ only other pennant-winner in 1984.

Bochy elevated a Hall-of-Fame-worthy resume after leaving San Diego following the 2006 season as he went on to lead the San Francisco Giants to three World Series (2010, 2012, 2014) and the Texas Rangers to a title in 2023 after three idle years.

Only five other managers — Joe McCarthy (7), Casey Stengel (7), Connie Mack (5), Walter Alston (4) and Joe Torre (4) — have won at least four World Series and they are all in the Hall of Fame.

Bochy won the 1996 NL Manager of the Year as a Padre and was a finalist seven times. He won 2,252 games as a manager over 28 years, sixth all-time. Mack, Tony La Russa, John McGraw, Bobby Cox and Torre are also all in the Hall of Fame.

Bochy’s resume includes nine postseason berths and six division titles, including back-to-back NL West crowns during Alderson’s tenure in San Diego in 2005 and 2006.

Alderson, 78, began his front-office career with the Athletics in 1983 as a general manager and was the architect of Oakland’s 1989 championship. He was the Padres’ chief executive officer from 2005 through 2009 and the Mets’ GM from 2011 through 2018. Alderson also worked in the commissioner’s office as executive vice president of baseball operations.

The non-player ballot will also include Dusty Baker, Joe Maddon, Lou Piniella, Brian Sabean, Ted Turner and Bill White.

The results of the vote will be announced on MLB Network at 5 p.m. on Dec. 6.

Candidates who receive 75% of the vote will be inducted into Cooperstown on July 25, 2027, alongside any electees from the 2027 Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Those selections will be revealed Jan. 19, 2027.
