Uros Medic believes Islam Makhachev should walk away if retirement is already on his mind.<\/p>\n
The welterweight champion recently revealed that his next fight will be \u201cone of the last\u201d of his career. Makhachev has chosen to wait for the winner of No. 2 Carlos Prates and No. 3 Michael Morales, who will lock horns for the interim belt at UFC 336 on Jan. 30. Now, a fighter who has seen both Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov rule up close has weighed in on the champion\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

Appearing on Michael Bisping\u2019s Believe You Me podcast, \u201cThe Doctor\u201d said he understands why Makhachev is in no hurry. The 35-year-old beat Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330,<\/a> and Medic feels the line of contenders to fight him will never run out. He said:<\/p>\n \u201cI totally understand him. Like, he probably doesn\u2019t need the money. He has already accomplished everything he wanted to accomplish… after he beats Carlos Prates<\/a>, they\u2019re going to call him and be like, \u2018Hey, you want to fight Morales?\u2019 It\u2019s going to be the same thing. It just never stops.\u201d<\/p>\n However, the Serbian also wants to see a change at the top. He recalled competing at lightweight while Khabib held the belt, and now he has watched Khabib\u2019s protege take over at 170 pounds. Hence, the Serbian sees no reason for Makhachev to stick around if he is already thinking about the exit.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m a little tired of watching Islam Makhachev winning at the top… if you\u2019re talking or considering retirement, bro, get out. You\u2019ve already accomplished everything. Like, go do your thing, bro. Be a businessman, be a politician, be whatever you want,\u201d Medic said.<\/p>\n Still, Uros Medic<\/a> gave the champion his flowers for the legacy he and Khabib built. He said:<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s a smart fella. So, we\u2019re probably going to see him for another year, maybe another one or two fights.
