TONY Quinn has let fly at Supercars regarding the omission of Queensland Raceway from the 2027 calendar.<\/p>\n

Following significant renovations, the Ipswich track had returned from a five-year hiatus to be installed as the championship\u2019s Sprint Cup decider for 2025 and \u201926.<\/p>\n

But with Phillip Island reuniting with Supercars next year as MotoGP departs, it had long been rumoured that QR was at risk of losing out \u2013 and indeed that has panned out.<\/p>\n

Circuit owner Tony Quinn expressed his disappointment at the situation, taking aim at Supercars and its ownership consortium RACE for selling out fans in favour of government dollars.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously we\u2019re disappointed, because we have invested millions of dollars into our venue which is truly fit-for-purpose now,\u201d he told V8 Sleuth.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, I was at Sandown last weekend and it\u2019s a disgrace. They\u2019ve spent nothing for 30 years and yet because the Victorian government, who are near-bankrupt I think, sees fit to pay the V8s to go\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cThe V8s, they claim they\u2019re all about the fans and the sport but in truth they\u2019re all about government funding and if they don\u2019t get government funding, they don\u2019t come and play. It\u2019s as simple as that.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve abandoned the heartland fans in southeast Queensland.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked if he\u2019d welcome Supercars back in future years, Quinn replied: \u201cI don\u2019t think they\u2019ll be back for a while.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think how they operate is they try to stitch up things on three-to-five-year deals and I perhaps foolishly didn\u2019t stitch them up here (for a longer term).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe good thing is that Queensland Raceway is a busy enough track anyway, so we\u2019re not going to suffer financially at all.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just feel sad that the heartland fans that have supported the V8s, they\u2019re the guys that buy the merchandise and the hats and everything else, they\u2019re going to be shafted.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s nothing to do with us. It\u2019s purely and simply because the V8s want government help.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, I never ever ran a business that gets government help. Never. So I don\u2019t actually understand the logic of being able to call yourself a business when really you\u2019re just getting government money. It doesn\u2019t make sense to me.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just think it\u2019s shortsighted and let\u2019s be honest, RACE, whether they\u2019re the rightful owners, I don\u2019t know, but they\u2019re not going to be there for much longer.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ll sell it and somebody else will come in and try to make a better job of it, I guess.\u201d<\/p>\n
