Sydney Swans star Tom Papley returned a positive preliminary result during a random roadside drug test, the club has confirmed.<\/p>\n

The Swans are awaiting the results of a second drug test sample, which will take a month.<\/p>\n

A statement from NSW police said the test was allegedly positive for methylamphetamine.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt about 10.30am on Monday, traffic and highway patrol officers stopped a vehicle on Lang Road, Centennial Park, for the purposes of a random testing,\u201d NSW Police said in a statement provided to news.com.au.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe driver \u2014 a 30-year-old man \u2014 was spoken to, with checks revealing his licence was suspended.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was subject to a roadside drug test which allegedly returned a positive result for methylamphetamine. A secondary sample of oral fluid was taken for further analysis.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was issued a court attendance notice for drive, licence suspended under s 66 fines act, to appear before Waverly Local Court on Thursday, November 26, 2026, and a 24-hour driving probation. Inquiries continue.\u201d<\/p>\n

Papley is also set to front court over driving with a suspended licence as a result of an unpaid parking fine.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Wednesday, the Swans said Papley was pulled over by NSW Police for a roadside licence check on Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cPapley was issued with a court attendance notice for driving with a suspended licence due to non-payment of a parking fine,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the roadside stop, Papley completed a random drug test which returned a positive preliminary test indication. <\/p>\n

\u201cA second sample was taken for analysis. The results from the second test are expected to take at least four weeks.<\/p>\n

\u201cPapley immediately advised the Club regarding this matter and the Club subsequently informed the AFL.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Club will be making no further comment pending the outcome of the police process.\u201d<\/p>\n

Papley, 30, has played 216 AFL games for the Swans including the 2016, 2022 and 2024 grand finals.<\/p>\n

It is the latest off field incident for Swans, who suspended five players for the remainder of the season including finals for breaching club behavioural standards following a round 23 win in Melbourne.<\/p>\n
