South Korea\u2019s market is the latest to fall victim as a brutal technology sell-off spreads around the world.<\/p>\n

The KOSPI index collapsed 9 per cent within minutes after opening on Friday, losing almost A$440 billion in market cap and triggering a trading halt.<\/p>\n

The KOSPI, heavily concentrated in tech giants Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, is now down almost 50 per cent from its record high set in June. <\/p>\n

Friday\u2019s decline wiped out about 406 trillion won or A$436 billion in market value.<\/p>\n

The Australian sharemarket has copped it too. <\/p>\n

The benchmark S&P\/ASX 200 Index fell 115 points, or 1.27 per cent shortly after opening before paring losses, as seven of the 11 sectors opened in the red, led by miners and technology stocks.<\/p>\n

It comes after Wall Street suffered through its worst day since Liberation Day as investors smashed the sell button.<\/p>\n

The Nasdaq composite entered correction territory, shedding an estimated $US2.5 trillion ($3.6 trillion) in total market value.<\/p>\n

The S&P 500 Index was also down more than 5 per cent overnight, registering their worst day since President Donald Trump announced his sweeping tariffs that triggered fears of a global recession in April 2025.<\/p>\n

Here in Australia, the focus will again be on David Jones which officially entered administration on Thursday. <\/p>\n
